Front axle suggestions

that is lousy argument, you arent going to get out and unlock the hubs to make a turn. you will back up and make the turn. also, if you can't make the turns through the trails around us, you need to learn how to drive.

definelty lock the front, and in my opinion, run 35's on the stock 30 (with 297/760 joints) and just have replacement parts. people say it sucks, but it is a decent little axle that can withstand 35's if you aren't crazy. mine withstood 35's and 36's for 2 years b/c i didn't do stupid shit.

Which argument is lousy?

I think I didn't explain myself well. I was trying to point out that a front locker is in no way related to having front hubs.

Bottom line. Front lockers are great. No hubs or 2 low needed.

Your Jeep will steer fine in 4wd on the trail w/o 2 low. 2 low is nice to have but by no means necessary. Like a cherry on top of your ice cream.

BOLTONJOHN, i agree with you completely, wolfpack saying it would be a hassle trying to make turn is a lousy argument. sorry, i was not very clear.

I was not arguing with any one. I was just looking at every aspect involved with this mod before I do it. I have never driven a vehicle with the front axle locked. I just wanted to see what people said that have that experience. Now with an answer I feel more comfortable with doing the mods. ;)

Get the shafts /297's and save for 2lo. A 30 is fine for what you want to do (damn it hurts to type that). As for turning with a front locker , there is a trick to getting one to turn sharp it takes some pratice but you can actually turn it sharper than with an open front end. It requires a little two footed driving by putting light pressure on the brakes and accelerating in short burst in certain situations (especially uphill turns) it will sorta "pull" the front end around. It does take practice and it does work. I would throw a lockright in the front, they are cheap, work well and next to invisible on the road. Your axle shafts will break before it does IMHO.

Thanks, I am thinking right along those lines. She should make a good little weekend wheeler. I might make a run to tellico when I get everything finished. :)
