My buggy came with a fuel cell that someone has built its 16x16x16 I moved it from the original spot which was right behind the seats, touched the seats it was so close. im having to redo/rework the back of the cage some to change it around and make it better for the fuel cell. the more I look at this tank the sides have bellowed out some, and im just not sure if I want to run it.
so im looking for a tank that is as close to square as I can find to replace it. is a metal tank better than a poly tank? do I need to mount the tank flat? do I need to have it sitting on a floor of some type or can I have it mounted between some tubes?

Poly works. If going metal, don't use an alum cell. It will eventually crack. Get a steel cell enclosure with a poly bladder (like a circle track cell). It can be mounted however you want to do it. A steel mesh floor works for a poly cell and gives room for mud and crud to escape.

Most kids are making their own anymore. Custom fit for custom applications.

Well I’m pour. I honestly thought about that and decided I’d rather redo some cage work than building a tank.

I want to slap the shit out of you sometimes for no other reason that to see if it'll shake whatever wire you've got crossed in your brain when it comes to the English language. Secondly, building a tank is really not bad. Cardboard and tape and you've got your design. Then the next hardest part is welding it up with no leaks.

You have seen my welds. That shit would leak like a pasta strainer

Go to Summit Racing and look at the hundreds.of race tanks that they carry. You should be able to get a house brand poly tank with foam and fittings for $200.

I think I’m getting Jody’s old tank he is switching to a larger one to help get more weight on the rear end

Take a picture of the rear area and let everyone come with some ideas. You're /he is right about getting more weight back there. Believe it or not I run into the same issue. The rear is extremely light in comparison to the front. That's part of the reason I load it down with as many tools as I do.

I’ll take some at lunch. I’m adding a lot of tube back there so it could all be pretty easily changed around. And the back end is so short the fuel cell no matter what is gonna be right over the rear axle. I was thinking about one of the long cells that most people run turned long ways with the buggy but they are so tall I’d be afraid if I rolled it would smash the tank

I don't know anything about these, but they sound good.

I guess they are not available yet:

I looked at those but think it might be hard to package. I also want a 15+ gallon tank. The square tanks I think are going to fit better but we will see. I could be really lazy and put the fuel cell back where it was originally..... but it’s right behind the seats and I want some kind of separation from the fuel cell.

I’m following for the recommendations as to good, bad,and in between. I’m in need of a cell for my ‘80 Toyota but I would really like to figure out how to keep my stock gauge. I looked at the write up on those RCI cells and all their other products have good reviews so hopefully these will be good too.

2161AB is not the same cell. It’s just an aluminum cell. The ones above are aluminum cells with bladders

That is the one with the bad history of broken weld seams, correct?

Ya I believe so. That was originally there offroad cell and after they had some serious problems with them cracking after a year or two of use they thickened the aluminum and then added a bladder they are suppose to fit into the rci fuel cell strap kits everyone makes now

Learn from me....
I bought "cheap" new used one from CL. it had strange tabs on it to mounting it sucked. The cheapo stock gas cap leaks water into the fuel and I had to saw a huge hole in it for my stock sending unit.

Basically what I'm saying is buy as nice of one as you can afford and get one that you don't have to modify.

The one that’s in it was full of fuel so it doesn’t leak but it looks like it’s seen better days and being so close to the seats I don’t want it to leak, and it doesn’t have a good rollover valve on it

I bought a roll over valve from a local circle track shop
