Ok, so it’s hunting season and I’m sure everyone has some good use of your game cameras by now.

What’s everyone using? What do you like? What do you don’t like?

My main purpose is to catch a thief, if they show up again. With it being placed at an ongoing construction site, I’m almost positive they will show up again.

Needs: infrared. Hidden. Able to get good quality shots of faces or license plates. Motion activated. Enough memory to last a week. It would be cool if it could send me alerts but no way I’m buying an internet package for a remote construction job unless there is an easier way.

Thoughts?

Most of these cameras can take rapid pictures and short videos. They can store hundreds or thousands of pictures on one card. If you got creative w hiding the camera well and have it pointed at some "bait" for the thieves you may even get pictures of faces. Put one looking up or down the rd./access to the site you could probably get readable pics of license plates, day and night. I know a guy who was having his game cameras stolen, He hid one well, that was pointed @ another camera and got pictures of the thieves face while he stole the obvious camera.

Get a Verizon 4G Arlo cam (or maybe your carrier has something similar if not on Verizon). Not cheap, but should be able to do exactly what you want, and you get a notification when they trigger the camera, and web based video in case they happen to steal it.

My parents put up a Cuddeback in the back yard after their house got broken into it. It's small and easily concealable and has infrared. It can hold a lot of pictures, can do video as well. I have it now since they have an alarm system. Works well.

I have a Moultrie in my Amazon shopping cart..

But there seems to be many others with the same options for less than half the price. Wondering if the Moultrie is that much better to be more than twice the price...?

I bought a Bushnell at Walmart for about $100. It works great. Has IR flash, takes pics and videos. Has lots of settings to adjust. I put lithium batteries in it back in February when I got it, and they are still going.

they all will look the same but the camera detail with the IR is what drives the price up and the sensitivity of the motion sensor.

And, I’m guessing Moultrie’s no IR flash is the same as “no glow”?

I just done want the damn thing to get stolen when it flashes, etc.

Mine has been up at my property for the last 3 years. Taking pictures 24/7. Not a single hiccup. So I would say that's pretty good. Not sure about the longevity of the cheaper brands.

Subbed! I need to upgrade badly

I grabbed a couple of the Wild Game Innovations $50 cameras from Wally World earlier this year for surveillance... covering the red glowing LED with a double layer of black tape
  • the response time is horrible... a car doing 5mph will only trigger it once... about 2" before it leaves the frame with NO follow-upo shots
  • the clarity for a "10MP camera" is total crap... more on-par with 1MP... good luck getting a plate
  • night shots all prove that Bigfoot does live nearby

Just picked up he Moultrie M-50i. Has plenty of storage, invisible flash, and even a mobile option so I don’t have to frequent the camera to view photos. Has 20mp photo with HD 1080 video and audio options with a .3s shutter reaction time. Hopefully it’s the best option without spending a ton of $$. And it’s tax deductible. :D

Should get here this week and start using it by his weekend. We shall see what kind of thieves we can catch.

On a side note, one of my guys saw the perp’s car at the store at lunch time and snapped a pic of the license plate. The local sheriff’s office stopped by their house and the guy matched the description of one of the guys. But, without catching them there, realistically it could have been a similar vehicle, etc. so nothing happened, yet. But, if it was him, I’m hiping the cops stopping by his house is enough of a deterrent to keep away from my job site.

Take a close look at the ratings for the optics.
If you get a pic of your thief but the license and/or face is just too grainy to make out, you'll be kicking yourself.

It’s pretty sensitive so that’s a plus. Been using the same batteries so battery life is good.

Video is good quality. The night pics are meh. There are nearby leaves, etc that put too much glare back to the lense, so the video didn’t come out very good at night.

I’ve since trimmed some more leaves and branches. Hopefully it helps out more. I’ll check it again within the next couple weeks and see if I can post some pics.

Bringing this back to the top. I have a new need for a game camera. Similar as previously discussed but would like one that’s able to connect to my phone via cellular.

I wasn’t able to use the Moultrie one for long before someone stole it. 🙄
Thankfully didn’t have any other issues at the job site.

Ok, for this new need, just need something similar but want to be able to have it with cellular capabilities. Need decent optics and motion detection, etc. Need to be able to capture faces and licenses plates. We have some not-so-honest people that like to help themselves at our land when the wife puts out flowers at her flower stand.

I have a couple covert brand cameras that work decent, but just bought two spypoint "flex" cams, one with a solar panel...they are pretty killer have the best software of any I've used and up to 100 pics over 4g for free. Also the flex can use att or verizon network depending on which is less shitty in your area. People won't fuck with a camera that has an antenna coming out of it.
