Garage door controllers

Looks like the wireless receiver board on our old Allison garage door opener has finally crapped out. The mechanical portion of the opener works fine, as it is still tripped by the wired button lines. Spectrum analyzer (yes, I'm a nerd) confirms the remotes transmit *something*. Either way it's an old insecure fixed-frequency DIP style so time to upgrade to something better anyway.

From what I can tell, all I need is something that receives an RF signal and connects 2 leads together (like a relay). I have a 12v line to power off of.
Any suggestions on a controller?
I see 3 options
1 - find a replacement set that is garage remote/receiver replacement. Maybe something like this
https://www.amazon.com/eMylo-Wirele...31897&sr=1-13&keywords=garage+door+controller
2 - get a fancy thing designed for home automation/integration like a Smart Garage MyQ or similar (allows opening w/ a phone or other devices)
3 - be geeky and make my own w/ an Arduino or something

Ideas?

Have you looked at a whole new system? The remotes for our old opener quit working two years ago and two new ones where going to be $120. I got a new craftsman opener with two remotes, keypad, and the smartphone link system for $200 on sale.

Nope, b/c I have no interest in the work involved in replacing the opener itself. Out of principle, if it works, I see no reason to replace it.
I mean, I guess I could always just take the controller out of the new one and swap it, but I'd worry about it not being modular like that.

I deal w/ RF electronics at work all the time. I know the parts involved in this are about $5...

Radio shack used to sell a garage remote kit. I'd just throw that in it or make my own. You could go IR coded. But definitely I'd do a rolling code key system whatever the transmission media is. If it's not rolling code it's vulnerable to a replay attack.

I respect the he'll out of that:rockon:

But nothing is made to repair any more. (See tv repair shops)

Everything is disposable now ( damn, I sound like a socialist hipster o_O)

@RatLabGuy do you have a home security system?

If so and you tell me the make/model I may have a free solution for you

I'll answer that in a pm.(rather than informing the world what we have)
10-4....

Ive got a box of old alarm components for various manufacturers.
Almost all the companies offer a keyfob/remote for the alarm system and it will ahve an aux button as well. Can be easily programmed to control the garage...even if you dont enable it to control the alarm system. The receiver typically relies on the panel for programming so will need to have an alarm panel to interface with.
