Gas theives in Mexico

The article says this type of theft is very common. Man those folks burning and running, suck.

Are they that desperate or stupid? I mean really, the gas is spraying like a geyser. Couldn't be bad or dangerous.

I have sympathy for what ever innocent folks mighta been there(kids brought by parents specifically) but some paid a heavy price for theft. You gotta think that will be the end of tapping pipelines.

I have trouble imagining a worse way to die. I cannot comprehend what would make someone be involved in this, I just don't have the perspective to understand. Yesterday it was 66 dead. Today they are saying 85+
Death toll climbs to at least 85 in Mexico fuel pipeline explosion

I'm kinda surprised how cavalier of an attitude you guys have about this.

So with that said do you think people will continue to do it??
Yep. Clearly they are (at least somewhat) ignorant of the consequences, and in a very desperate situation with a corrupt government and corrupt industries. I'll be the first to say things are corrupt in the US, but it's nothing compared to Mexico and most other third world countries. @Ron and I have talked about this quite a bit, but these people didn't choose to be born in Mexico. They are stuck in a tough life with little or no education and little or no opportunity to better their situation, so they do things that seem foolish and desperate to us first worlders.

You are 100% right. I also cant imagine a worse way to die. I do feel sorry for the people who were injured or killed. And for their families.

But how on earth, could anyone, think it would be a good idea to stand under gasoline spraying at high pressure into the air?????

I agree its a TERRIBLE way to die and I would hate to go that way but I don't have much sympathy for a thief.Ive had too much taken from me.

Sad, I bet some of the folks killed were forced to carry fuel by parents or family... I don’t get it tho, really it’s highly flammable liquid sprayed all over the place so lets flock to it, bc it’s easier to steal it then to pay for it!? It’s hard to be surprised by this honestly, especially with everything that’s going on in this screwed up world we live in!! Prayers for the innocents, hope the thieves and any that forced people to do it burn slowly tho!

I don't know what to make of this.
I mean, it's horrific and tragic, and apparently a lot of kids died. I can't imagine what an awful, gruesome scene that was. The stuff nightmares are made of.
Then you see the "day of" footage, with the gas spewing everywhere, and lots of people running around in it with plastic jugs or whatever they happen to have, and think, WTF are these people thinking, getting gas all over themselves, don't they know how toxic and dangerous that stuff is...
And then of course, it IS theft, and apparently is a HUGE problem is Mexico right now, in fact so bad the President recently moved to changed back to trucking gas instead of some pipelines just to cut down on thievery.
On some hard-assed level I feel like people get what they deserve for theft, but damn, that's harsh, and from what I've read there were a lot of kids who were there just b/c their village elders told them it was the thing to do b/c the government was corrupt anyway and it was needed to survive, and with gas so hard to get already in an area that is dirt poor... it's hard to not feel bad for them.

My mother has done lots of mission work in the African continent. Its much like you described. Pretty much kids doin errand work for anything. Little education and desperation for basic goods.

But for the life of me all those folks can't be that ignorant of the dangers? Any adult putting kids in that spot in our country would dang near hang. I'm more dumbfounded by it all together. Its horrific on all levels.

I would have to educate myself more cause it's hard to wrap my head around that kind of blind risk.
It simply doesn't compute to even try to steal in this manner. They might as well be stealing amunition by catching spent rounds out the business end of the barrel.

I probably shouldnt take this tread in this direction and honestly wont be suprised if it gets deleted.....

But, these would seem to be the same people, who the American people are convinced a wall will keep out.

If these people will do something this reckless for a few gallons of gasoline, imagine what they would endure and overcome for a life of "freedom " and "prosperity" in America.............

There will be a lot more of them die before it is over infection will kill a bunch more. I have seen someone on fire from head to toe it is not something you want to witness in person and if it is someone close to you. I put him out and he spent almost 2 years in the hospital He was burnt over 95 % of his body and had less than 2 % chance making it 48 hours. He does good today works every day now cant be in the sun long he cant sweat now and will over heat on hot days. Gas burns are the worst burn you can get it gets deep in your skin fast and does major damage. I feel for the people in that fire down there right or wrong.

That’s the damn truth! Scary thought if you really consider the possibilities...

For the derail....cause I kinda see the supporting side of this horrific scene.
@junkxj
This is same thinking that the "wall" is just a barrier?

Has it ever occurred it would be simply a better tool to deter illegal activity. Not stop it all together, but maybe just maybe encourage stream lining or better manging legal immigration. Seems that bettering a border would allow us to focus more on allowing legal passage as opposed to focusing so much on damage control.

A lot of those folks walking will die. I agree. I helped a walking breathing man enter a ambulance. He died less than 24 hours latter. Was only a small brush fire that he passed out in and the grass burned over him. Lost a lot of cloths by .supertficial appearance.
Many of those folks don't stand a chance. Its only shock and adrenalin making them move on.

Someone call up Trump and tell him his wall idea sucks ass.

Just build a sprinkler system instead.
