Gas Water Heater Cost

Water heater is about $500 plus misc fittings and parts. Labor and materials for electric and gas line, plus leak testing, etc. I’d expect 2 guys there for a day to do the work, so yeah, I’d say $1400-$1800 seems close depending on location, permitting, etc.

If it’s in the garage or easily accessible that sounds high to me. I swapped out my sisters in her garage in about an hour for about $500 including all of the fittings.

In January 2018 I had my hot water heater replaced with a 40 gallon State water heater (Pro Line commercial grade unit). Total bill was $1075 including a new pan, fittings, and adding a drip leg to the gas line and an expansion tank. I called in the morning and he had the water heater installed by 3 PM. Water heater is located inside the house.

Assuming it can go back in same location and same style (not switching from electric to gas etc) that seems high. Not necessarily rip you off and bend you over high, but big company in a big city big overhead high. A smaller more local plumber I’d expect to be 1k ish....or you can do it yourself for 5-600.

What you have to understand, is in the triad right now, there's more residential style construction going on than ANY 10 local contractors can handle. Commercial construction is even worse (we're BEGGING for P/M/E quotes for projects just to get 3 bids for gubment work).

No one NEEDS the work. In fact, I'd go as far to say that no one wants ANYTHING else right now, so they're giving ridiculous quotes left and right. You'd likely be BETTER OFF with a big city type contractor that has structured fees. If he were in Winston I might could get a plumber or 2 to do the work on nights/weekends for cash, but even THOSE guys are so busy they're only taking jobs close to the house so they can get home at a decent time :(

You aint kidding. Its a real hassle to get quotes for work in the triad. Charlotte is a disaster of its own.

John, sounds pretty high to me. Maybe there is someone in this forum who is qualified to install it for you? Cost of the water heater plus $500, would be a good side gig for someone.
As a matter of fact, I just last summer went from electric to a gas stove/oven. I had to get a tank and so on. One of the workers at the gas place did the install and testing for me for $225. I was happy with that. So, might check your gas place and see if any of the workers do side jobs??? Just a thought

Probably connected to something I overheard today. A contractor working on the side doing a rental remodel, is pulling out over some money problems. But, he had singed a contract, to do this job! None of my business!:p
