The family is headed to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge (staying in Sevierville) first week of next month and sort of have everything figured out, but am trying to make sure we don't miss anything worth doing/seeing. Currently, we are staying at the wilderness at the smokies which we can spend an entire day there without really going anywhere, we are also going to hit up Dollywood, Anakeesta, Crave Golf, The Island, and then we've sorta got all of our meal places planned out as well. Anything we are missing that is worth doing? I want to stop at Lore Village, but I don't really think my wife and daughter would be too interested in going there, plus for the price per person, I don't know if it would be worth it.

Also if you wear boots there is an outlet store up on the main drag. When we were there it was buy one get 2 free pair. You pay for the most expensive pair but I walked out with $800 worth for $275 ish. They are all name brand stuff but some have tiny imperfections you’d never even see or discontinued series or whatever. I’d be tempted to make the trip just to restock.

Also, right next door is the carhart outlet. I stocked up on hoodies while I was there. They were like $25 a piece.

I am not a boot man myself, but I love a good priced hoodie!

PF/ Gatlinburg has unfortunately gotten way too overcrowded, even in the off the main strip parts of it. Cades cove is a nice scenic drive with places to stop and look at old houses/ churches and wildlife. There's also a scenic drive from the end of the strip in Gatlinburg that is nice and along the same lines as Cades cove. I think it's called the auto road or something like that. However, they both stay crowded now and though it's not "peak" vacation season when you're going, these 2 towns always stay crowded and you're getting into leaf-looker season so expect that to bring in more crowds. The alpine coaster was fun when we did it years ago when they built the first one, there's a bunch now.

Maybe it's just me getting older but I hate how everything is getting so commercialized and overcrowded.

Yeah, this is my thought process as well, but I wanted to take the family somewhere that had a lot to do that we hadn't been to before and honestly the resort we are staying at has an indoor water park and I think my daughter will love that all on its own, but I just want to have a fun filled vacation and create some memories.

Id say, hit up a Mountain Coaster, if you havent ridden one before. The one at Skyland Ranch was longer than others.

The wife likes the Apple Barn for breakfast.

I typically want to avoid the "main" spots and find the local spots.

I would like to go and see if i can find a passenger door for my 1955 delray. and 2 good front fenders for a 1950 ford f1 pick up. But the traffic is a nightmare to navigate. I might get up early and get there by 8 am to look around.

For those that have done one of the mountain coasters... how are they as far as speed goes? I'm guessing you can control how fast you go, but if you go slower (I thinking about this because my daughter probably won't want to go too fast) will it hold the person(s) behind you up? Since we are already going to Anakeesta, figured if we did a mountain coaster, we would do that one.

We have done several up there. All are a blast. Usually book them through Groupon and save a ton of coin. Speed is controlled by a hand brake basically. Both my daughters always wanted to start slow then speed up and they love it.

Groupon! Thank you! I always love finding ways to save money.

That’s really the only time I use it. And it saves a ton on coasters and arcade like places up there.

Yup. If you havent booked your rooms yet, Winderness has Groupons often for the rooms. Typically comes with passes for the arcade too.
