Pretty sure this is the third weekend of September. Last year was the last Shades of the Past show.

And I mistakenly read it as "this week (meaning the week the OP is going) is the rod run" which is what triggered my question because I figured what does it matter what's happening on a weekend the OP isn't going. I haven't been in a few years due to the douchery that exists there and has ruined the classic car scene.

Last year was the last Shades show. Was at Splash Country parking lot. The water park had been closing at the end of August in years past and was available for the show in September. This year they extended their season into September. Also, I believe the people that organized the Shades show were looking to retire. I think they had been doing it since the late 70's.

There was a new show this past weekend at the red roof outlets. My neighbor has been there all week. He said there were about a 100 cars in that show. First place paid $5000.
 
I used to go every year but it has got so bad that i almost had to shoot a guy on the strip he was making sexual remarks to my 10 yo daughter. I had ripped my left shoulder out and couldn.t move my arm at all. he jumped out of his truck and headed toward me with a razor knife partially concealed in his hand and the street light reflected off the razor blade and i saw it. When i cleared my door with my 9mm in my hand he just about tore the soles off of his shoes trying to back fast. I hadn't realized that his buddy got out with a hunting knife and was working his way toward me my son got out with his gun and stopped him and we made them throw their knifes in the bed of their truck. We exchanged some words and he and his buddy left. If he had been in Ky i would have shot them dead right there but i am glad i didn't it would have cost everything i had to pay lawyers to keep out of jail. Thank God was watching over me then even though i was a sinner then and he made a way to keep my family safe.
 
If you like knives of any type, Smokey Mountain Knifeworks is on the right after you cross the river.
IMHO, it's one of the top 2 reasons to go.

The diesel ricers have taken over.I literally counted at least 20 white diesel trucks w white lights under them in about a 30 min time span last night.

The dum asses w the beads soliciting anything that has boobs have taken the fun out of it.I'm honestly suprised someone hasnt been hurt or even shot over it.

IIRC a few years ago they were arresting them for solicitation.

Yea. They need to rid the diesel show up the road for sure. But the rod run has gotten so big I doubt it would matter. I got to pulled for a huge burnout, let go once the cop realized I wasn’t 16 in a truck basically
 
Diesel trucks were about all that was on the road last night.I intentionally didnt take mine. We parked and walked about two hours looking at what was in the parking lots.The old guys w the nice cars arent gettin on the road in that crowd for whatever reason.As bad as I hate to say it the diesel crowd has as much right as the 4wd's,mini trucks,imports or anybody else.They are just annoying as hell.Tonya commented on how very few of them looked to be over 23/24 yo.Im sure some of em have good jobs and their spending their money but most are either hopelessly in debt or spending the folks money.

Oh yeah, it seems like everything up there closes for the day at 9-10pm.
We sometimes like to hit the later shows then eat afterwards.
The best late-night option in town is the Waffle House ..... but you pretty much have to know where it is to find it!

One of the things I'm looking forward to the most! Taking the kiddo and the wife to do all the things they want to do, but SMKW is gonna be for me!

He was a local he had Sevierville tags and it was a camo Toyota pu with a pipe rear bumper. If i had use of both arms then i would have beat him to an inch of his life then and i would have used the tape measure i keep in the door of my truck to make sure i got that close. Or he would had to beat me till i couldn't move one. I went back a couple times after i got my arm better looking for him but i never found him. I am glad i have God in my life now and i am past that in my life because i would never let anyone do something to me or my family without paying them back a 100 time over.
