Go Extreme or Go Home

Oops meant 14 year old!!

just curious, what IS the penalty for drinking on the trials? Sicne they aren't state roads, it can't be a DUI ticket, right? I know iit is against the rules, is it just a fine for "breaking the rules"?
I am guessing that if you get cought drunk driving on Fed. property it would be worse. idk

I think a lot of this comes from the few guys that try a obsticle like 20 times untill they finaly break something and are now stuck blocking the trail. This goes for both stock mild and wild rigs. There are times that there re `15 rigs waiting in line to run A section and there is one guy that is try something that he will never get up like 20 times. then he brakes a drive shaft and then instead of pulling cable he stops and try to fix it right there in the trail.

I will try Something a few times and then let some one else try or pull cable and get the hell out of the way.

IMO threads like this is why Trout Unlimited is kicking our a$$es over the whole Tellico issue. They don't argue over who has the bigger rod or better lure(this one may get a lol from some), they unite for a common cause. If as much enegry was put into cleaning up the trails, or helping to improve the image of the sport rather than blasting a group with different rigs then we wouldn't have to worry about a place to wheel....
Sorry for the ranting but it makes me mad to see highschool type stuff make us all look like 14 year olds....

+1
...Though I will tell you there is a ton of infighting between the hand tied fly and the "worm drowners" crowd in the trout world....

All that said I think a good bit of ettiquette could go a long way in many situations. And as a rule I think too many people drink to have fun. Dont get me wrong I enjoy a good beer or 12 as much as the next guy, but it is not a requirement to have a good time.

www.fs.fed.us/r4/htnf/projects/.../ohv/b_c_ohv_grant_app_0505.doc

i cant open this doc on the computer here. im pretty sure that will answer your question. i think its a full on DUI.

OHV in other states enforce full DUIs. I know they hand em out like candy to snowmobilers.

Lake Norman is not a state road either.

I got really frustrated last year at ure at a group in stock nissans. It wasnt their fault totally because i was trying to catch up with a group and got turned around(lost) and they were stopping in the middle of the trail for photo ops. Not trying obstacles, just pulling up on basketball sized rocks and snapping a few of each vehicle. They moved and let me around. They probably thought i was a dick but I was frustrated before I every saw them and that just made it worse.

Did they move when they saw you come up? If you were the only person to come up on them as they were taking photos (no matter how retarded you thought those photos were), and they got out of your way, then I really don't see the issue. If they had said "Fawk you.....you'll wait until we're done with photos"....then yes, an issue.

Sounds like they were enjoying their day, and got out of your way so you could proceed on your way to enjoy your day.....and you were pissed about them doing so. Self admittedly pissed because you got lost and wanted to catch up with your buds. And by their being there, they irritated you by their very presence.

Doesn't make a lot of sense. Unless stock rigs shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Is that it?

If the group did not let you by in a time frame you found acceptable (however that is defined) and it was a Nissan event I was a part of then, I apologize for their mis-step.

If it's just that you didn't think they should have been there, in spite of getting out your way so you could proceed.....not so much.

I will first say I do not know personally any of the BDB guys.. but the 1st post here no where mentioned that name, yet people in response to his post did.. why is that?

...

Yep, maybe a knee-jerk reaction because of the other thread. Maybe bad timing for this thread combined with stuff like...
...getting a "Go Extreme or Go Home" attitude out on the trails. ...
...A group of more well built rigs...
...The group walks up ....
...with these groups also. ...
...

I was probably being overly sensitive to the subject.

That being said, anyone that knows me knows I have one of the most uncapable POS rigs on the trail. But I have never whined about those with bigger rigs doin bigger things, etc. And I try something a couple of times and then I winch or go around. And I dont try stuff I can't possibly make when there are hundreds of other rigs on the trails!Talk about consideration of others! That door swings both ways, my freind. Yea, try the impossible, but not with a long line of rigs behind you or on one of the busiest events of the year!

Sounds like the issue with this guy is the same as the cats on the freeway in the left lane blockin traffic. Yea, maybe you're "in the right", and "have just as much right to be there", and maybe those of us that move faster seem to have "superiority complexes", but at the end of the day, if you're in the way, MOVE OVER. Let others by! (Just like Golf etiquet!)

Everybody I wheel with has always been MOST patient, and helpful to anyone they have come upon on a trail. All of the guys in the big rigs have never badmouthed other groups or a rig's capabilities, (at least not until someone has rigs backed up on the trail like a Charlotte traffic jam because of their inconsideration!) There are those who think that no matter how over their head, and uncapable they are on the trail, or how crossed up they end up, the whole world should stop and wait for them. Well if the rest of the world wont "wait for you," then tuff taters!

Now...put on yer big girl panties and lets wheel! :driver:

I know they waited on me and my stock TJ Saturday Scotty! :D

Word Up...

:rolleyes:Make sure you bring a tow strap if you wheelin' with Ol' Jeeps, RedneckCJ5guy or BigAZZBURBAN...:flipoff2: They cain't Drive fer :poop:....:shaking: I'm sure therez a few others I'm fergettin' :driver: ... I'm just sayin'...

Once, I was riding in a big bad buggy with a friend. We were rolling up on Kodak and there was a group of stockers having fun. We didnt mind the wait at all, in fact we were enjoying watching.
Ole' boy in a stock xj was giving her hell and going at it hard...I was smiling at laughing because I was having fun and couldnt help but to smile.(Having a good time =smile)
One of his friends that was standing there watching saw me smiling and said to his friend'' Look at these punks laughing...cause their junks bigger, they think they're cool in their big bad rig''.
I was offended by this...I was not laughing at anyones expense, i was laughing because it was cool to watch.
I guess these guys were insecure or something. When they saw my smile, they assumed I was laughing at them....and in turn, they started talking crap about us.
My point is...sometimes it's jealousy, insecurities, or ignorance, or a preconcieved notion that the big guys are the bad ones. And it's not always the case.
I could see these guys attitudes change the minute we rolled up....our attitudes didnt change, theirs did.
Just an example of shoes on the other feet.

exactly! sometimes you have to control your perception of others as your perception may be incorrect.

I personally have had to upright OL Jeeps my self at Mtn. City every one knows he is hard core and if it want go it will break or flip or he aint wheeling.

Why does everyone bitch and cry about offroading now?

Probably because the land we get to wheel on is shrinking, which means your per capita of dumbasses is increasing. Making the experience less enjoyable than what it used to be.

The constant loss of places to wheel has probably got us all a little uptight, and less tolerant of what we perceive as transgressions committed by fellow wheeler. I may not agree with his point of view, but I can see why more and more people will be (and should be) speaking out about things which may be doing us all a disservice.

Red X, my issue with the photo session was that they parked about 10-15 trucks on the trail with no way around and I had to get out and ask them to move. Normally I wouldnt have had a problem with that at all BUT i was already in a bad mood. I may have come off as a dick when I walked up to ask them to move. The point of my post was to say they might have perceived me as arrogant because they were in my way and I was bigger when in fact it had very little to do with them or the size of their rigs. That being said, they WERE in a terrible spot to stop. There are a lot of open spots on several trails for a group to stop and socialize without blocking flow.

Now...put on yer big girl panties and lets wheel! :driver:

I have not seen the other thread, So I can't comment

But I don't believe this was aimed at the BDB, at least I didn't take it that way. I have the up most respect for you guys and along with the safety work they do, The have helped me out a few times (Broken on the trail).

As far as the "Hardcore" guys, I would not group the beer drinkin guys with the hardcore guys, I have seen just as many drunks in stockish rigs as I have built rigs. Just because you can fab up a bad ass rig doesn't make you a beer drinkin asshat. Asses come in all shapes and sizes, you just have to deal with them.

Our group would be described as "stockish" most of us are on 35s or smaller, And as stated a few will go to the bypasses but a few will try the harder lines, Which is what makes this fun. But we by no means try to hold up anyone on the trail, Even though were called the Trail Jammers

Lets just all try to get along and wheel happly together.

I am going to weigh in here because I may have a unique view point. I think a lot of what is being said is in people's head like Dylan stated, but on the flip side, you will run into assholes on occassion no matter where you go in life. I started out wheeling a mildly built stocker 6-7 yrs ago. I now have a 1-ton built cab truck and a stockish looking Samurai. When I go wheeling, the folks with stock to stockish rigs seem to be more impressed with my cab truck, and the guys with the built rigs seem to be more impressed with my Samurai.
Personally, I like watching everything from stockers to fully built rigs as long as the driver is giving the obstacle a good effort.
I only get impatient with people on the trail for a few reasons.
1) Somebody wheeling on a trail that the driver/rig is obviously not capable of being on, and they have now created a big fat trail plug. The level of aggravation from this type of incident can go up dramatically if they are stupid and or drunk.
2) Somebody wheeling a rig and taking more than their fair share of time trying an obstacle. This can be particularly annoying if they don't know how to use the gas pedal properly and there is a long line of people waiting.
3) People who park on the trail BLOCKING the trail so they can get out and watch or help when they know there are lots of other vehicles behind them. Get the f$%k out of the way and park on the side of the trail if you are getting out of your vehicle!
I'll admit to being the guy standing on the trail heckling in those situations in the past, but I felt I had good reason to do so.
I'll 2nd the beer can thing too. WTF is with people just flinging beers can all out into the woods? If you can drink the beer, you can crush the can and stash it.

well said  as far as drinking on the trail, most people I know drink on the trail, but they don't get to silly and do keep the cans stashed in the truck, my opinion that is fine
