Good reason not to street race

If you read the caption the crown vic had a green arrow

Can't view youtube at work...but if this^^^ is the case, I think that sums up whose fault it is. Personally, I think driving exams (written and seat time) should be waaaaay harder and driving punishments should be waaaaaaaay harsher and driving should be treated as a privilege and not a right. I suppose I'm jaded though after being rear ended by a drunk driver, hit head on by an illegal/uninsured driver and sideswiped by an asian chick...ok she wasn't Asian, but her driving style said she was.

I used to street race all the time in high school. One day after school a buddy of mine wanted to run up one of the side streets. We rolled out and I was in the left lane and he was in the right, he had an edge on me so I decided to hang it up and got back behind him and we got hard on the brakes. Not 2 seconds after I backed out my girlfriend (now my wife) pulled out in front of us and I barely missed hitting her. Had I not backed out I would have plowed into her at about 90mph.

I have never once street raced after that, EVER.

Ya, these guys didn't deserve punishment at all. In fact, they should have sued that Crown Vic driver for every penny they had.<sarcasm>

"I ended up being sentenced to 120 days in jail, two years of probation, and 100 hours of community service" - You're trying to tell me that this case was the cop's word vs. the driver's? You saw the video right? All the other vehicles around, the driver admitting to racing, the fact that there is an actual in car video of the event. Not sure what more it will take to make this street racing.

120 days in jail, lol whatever
2 years probation, read above
communuty service, read above

i've been pulled twice for racing.
1 on the interstate above 100mph...lawyer fixed it to improper equipment (NOT cheap)
2nd time was in hickory and i got pjc on careless and wreckless and willful speed competition.

there's NO WAY he could have gotten all that unless he had a laundry list of other at faults or tickets

Nah, they weren't racing. GSRswapandslow said they weren't really racing... and he's a street racer himself, so he knows what that sort of thing looks like. And like he said, you don't know how fast they were going, but he does, and he knows the Vic was at fault.
You're just going to have to take his word for it.

I see what you did there.

If you read the caption the crown vic had a green arrow

I thought the caption said the Crown Vic had a green light. This would mean the Vic was turned across traffic without the right of way, and of course that puts some blame on that driver. Some fault however has to be on the drivers not street racing, maybe for not going fast enough, or having carpet on their dash?

Well, now that you have established your clear disregard for having consequences for your actions, I believe your credibility (or lack thereof) as a worthwhile contributor here goes with it.

Regardless of what happened in this video, it is a plain simple fact that street racing is illegal and dangerous, and advocating it o na public forum is just asinine.

glad you care :)

Street racing is just plain stupid. I've run my car hard before on the street and got caught doing some pretty stupid stuff, but if you truly want to race someone with the best of conditions, go to the track!

Sadly most people that stick to street racing would be embarrassed at most tracks immediately! If your car has anything more than 375 HP, you'll never know it on the street unless you like doing smokey burnouts. HP and ego don't mean squat unless you can back it up with a time slip. I've seen lots of high dollar cars at Mooresville advertising 700HP dyno #'s that run 8.80's all night. ET and MPH tell it all.

Everybody knows that if 2 cars take off fast together they were street racing........... Ive been pulled for this before and had to pay a lawyer and wasnt even racing never got above the speed limit did not lose traction just took off beside another car rather quickly.
So yea Id say the courts can be wrong. Its all a matter of their opinion and what the cop says doesnt matter if the cop is right or wrong.

In 2006 I was driving a 89 XJ on 33's and 3.55's, no power mods at all. I was at a traffic light beside 99-04 mustang gt, light turns green, I put the pedal to the floor, just a habit back then. Well the mustang drove the same way, took off early. We both are pulled over, both of us are told to sit on the curb (Next to eachother mind you) Where they quickly began accusing us of street racing. We had never met eachother, was about a 15 year age difference, i was probably 17, this guy was atleast 30. After a 30 minute lecture the officer determined the charge would be "Accelerating too fast"
Went to court, talked to the DA, charges dropped.

Pretty funny I thought.

As for street racing, most of the guys I know who have/still street race, do it in a controlled area, at hours of the day where traffic is minimal, and always have a spotter ahead and behind. I haven't been around this scene in a few years, but that video was just 2 idiots driving poorly and paying the price, I had a good laugh watching it.

yea i didnt see any street racing i just saw one guy not wanting to get shown up by a fustang. and all the street racing ive witnessed has been on roads with literally no cars on it.

but yes the strip is the best place now a-days just too much risk involved and plus its a fair race at the strip no head starts or poor judgement calls by the spotters

Our choir director and her 3 year old daughter at my church were killed last year from illegal street racing. The hurt that has gone through the community and esp. her husband has been unbelievable. I have done my fair share of being a jackass, but something this blatant can not be condoned.

I can't say I am free and clear to stand on a soapbox and say streetracing is bad and everyone who does is bad. But I have grown up a bit and realize that the many nights I spent out in Charlotte while growing up, watching this crap and doing it, has me grateful to be alive and not some greasy spot on a country road.

Almost every track around NC has a Test And Tune night now...spend your 5-10 bucks and be responsible.
