Granite Counter tops?

Were you happy with their work? Would you recommend them?
No real complaints about them. They were 1k less than Frieplace and Granite in Concord. The island is 10'x4'.

@tknopp
You looking to install soon? Maybe we can ask for a volume discount. Lol probabbly so busy they wouldn't care about a couple sales.

Was wondering aboit staining. Is there not a sealer that is designed for food on concrete?

There are a ton of sealer options. I used a food grade sealer and spilled red wine on it and it kept it free from staining. That was 2 weeks after sealing. No experience how well it works long term.

Red wine be damned, I'm more concerned whether or not it'll hold up to Natural Light.

There probably is. I don't think the options were as good 7 years ago. I think we just used the Quikrete concrete sealer. Lemon juice and other acidic things seem to stain it pretty easily.

@Ron
I have decided to use quality 1st choice. Met with Dwyane and knew instantly he would do what he said. Has gotten back to me on all my questions (unlike others) hasn't tried to upsell me. Very fair on pricing. Even the supplier had great things to say about him.

Now how about painting cabinets? I could but I don't have the time, any reccomendations?

My rough math says it cost you about $5k all-in to do concrete.

Granite in our kitchen was $2k, turn key.
I’d do concrete in a heartbeat. I did concrete on my last house remodel in lieu of granite. Spent $1500 versus $7000 and I got to make it like I wanted and with a fancy edge. Can stain it or acid etch it or whatever. And, it didn’t take away from the value of the home when sold.

Plus, granite is so 2005... :)

I know this is old now but Rob is on point here. I've done a few kitchens now including my own with concrete, the prep and setup sucks but it looks so much more modern than granite and is much less maintenance to keep "looking nice". When you're talking a large island and lots of counter space the other options aren't cheap.

what kinda maintenance are you doing on granite?

And dont you need to fully reseal your concrete regularly to keep from liquid intrusion?

granite is porous and should be sealed. Concrete is porous and should be sealed as well. Both should follow similar maintenance.

Yeah, but from a practical perspective, granite is not particularly porous, and most people don't reseal theirs on a regular basis. You can let water or oil stand on the surface, and it won't damage the counter. Concrete must be resealed or it stains.

So once concrete stains beyond where it looks good, just spend $250 and acid etch and stain it and whatever and get a completely new look however you want. No need to replace it with a $14,500 outdated granite counter top to get a new look! $$$$ saved and you get a new look whenever you want! :D

Right...but what if what "stains" it is chicken juice and now you have a salmonella breeding ground on your countertop.

Maintenance at far as how visible any scratch or cloudiness is on granite vs concrete. And yes you do have to reseal but it isn't all that often depending on what you use.

That's true but sometimes it takes effort not to look like a peepaw. Extra tall camper tops, practical? Absolutely. Cool? Shit no

Lol
I just wanted to thank Ron for the reference and maybe find someone to paint cabinets.

Not rehash concrete vs granite or who's DD looks like peepaw driving around on Sunday.

Slightly off topic, but any recommendations for an outdoor countertop? The concrete one I have outside right now is falling apart from too much freezing and thawing.

old pic with the old grill, its call coming apart now on the top

The New in, seems to be Quartz, & Crushed Glass. Glass can be mixed in with cement or a polymer.
Nothing is in My budget!
My outdoor budget is going to be for concrete. Hopefully a good sealer, rebar and or mesh.

Impossible! Are you sure it's not granite?

I hear Rob knows some good counter guys. They'll quote you 5x the going rate, so you'll have something to complain about for the next year.

Also, what the fuck are you doing outdoors at lunchtime?

I should check again, it might be granite! Your advise is always on point.

:fuck-you: I was meeting your wife for lunch!
