Diesel handles are always kind'a dirty & slimy, that's the first clue.
I can see how it would happen if you're in a hurry since the small nozzle is around now.
Come to work and I'll single point pump you some jet fuel, now that's a big nozzle, about 4" OD hose. I do run the sumped jet fuel in my army truck sometimes with a quart of motor oil thrown in.
