Whatever is convenient. If I'm near a salon, I have no issues sitting there with boobies in my face for the next 30mins. But there is a local barber that offers free cold beer...bad part of town, so you have to worry about $5 hookers after you leave.
 
I have a friend who is a barber but it's not really near my home or work. I know how a lot of yall feel, but, I enjoy the hell out of going to a black barber's shop on a saturday morning during football season. The movie "coming to America" doesnt even come close.

Oh man do I have a story for this...

So I was on the hunt for a new barber. The one I used to go to is now an hour away from my house, which I did not want to make the drive to. Found a place on-line, decent reviews, looked nice. Well I set off to find the place and it's no where to be found. Address listed is a bar. Call without any success. Back to the google machine and I find another place near by. Drive there and it's in a pretty shady strip mall. Ok, what ever, I have to get my hair cut today. I have an interview later in the day. I park and a truck pulls in beside me. Out pops a midget. Not an everyday sight. I walk into the barber shop and it's a black barber without any other white customers in the place. Well, can't back out now. A few minutes goes by and another white customer comes in and makes me a bit more comfortable about getting my hair cut there. Well behind that guy walks in the midget. The only barber in the place calls out to him, "Hey, you want to get that guy (pointing towards me)." I'm thinking to myself WTF?!? That's when I notice the platform around one of the chairs. This guy is a legit barber. Well I sit and he starts. Let me tell you, holy uncomfortable. Dude is breathing down my neck the entire time hes cutting my hair and I have to hold my head to the back and sides so he can reach. It was the, hands down, most uncomfortable hair cut I have ever had. To top it off, my hair was completely lopsided and there were parts that went untouched... Good times....

TL;DR Got my hair cut by a midget and came out lopsided.

Same here. Whenever I need one it’s whatever is convenient.
 
I've been going to the same barber for probably 20 years now....but I've decided when he's gone, it's salon time so I can holler at the ladies and have boobs in my face and the back of my neck.
 
I've been cutting mine with some clippers from Costco for several years now.
 
I've been to Great Clips for a decade or so after the barbershop I went to since I was a kid went to $20 for a haircut. I went to the same Great Clips for a few years and one day a skank who had hit on me before, did a hack job on me while she was obviously drunk and or stoned on the job. Then I went to another GC near my MILaws, 10 mins from my house before doing some landscaping for her. Tora cut my hair and snipped my ear w the scissors. She was very upset, I told her it's OK just finish the job. and I held some gauze on my ear while she finished the haircut. She would not let me pay for the haircut but she did a damn fine job and I went back to have her cut my hair for 5 years, she always cut my hair faster and better than anyone I've been to. I would joke w her about "don't take any off,or trim the ears" etc. now and then. Now she has a corporate job w GC and doesn't cut hair anymore :(

When I was a kid maybe middle school my mom was looking for a new barbershop to take me to. She had heard good things about College Barbershop so she looked their number up in a phonebook (yes before the internet). Gave them a call, they didn't answer but had a answering machine. So she left a message that her son had never been there before but wanted to make an appointment to get his hair cut. Couple days go by and she doesnt get a call back. Looks the number back up in the phonebook and realizes that College Barbershop and College Barbecue were right beside each other and she had called College Barbecue instead. Never got a call back and I'm sure the barbecue joint had a good laugh or two at that.

Ended up going to that barbershop for about 10 years. It was a father and son place and was always a good old fashion haircut.

Also the two places were only about a half mile from each other.

i do it myself in the yard with around a 7 or 8 guard then maybe a 5 on the sides and back if i can find the guards.


only problem is getting a little older. last time i finished i look down at the pile and it looks like somebody shaved a squirrel
 
That's something else that should have been in the original post. How much does everyone pay for a haircut?

Mine are 14 bucks. Ten is probably for the haircut and the other four is for information...basically man gossip. How else would I find out what's getting built, where, who's building it, etc.

I'm also way too particular about my haircuts to do them myself.
 
Salon here. I pay $15 (same price for the last 8 yrs) and am in and out in under 20 min. I have too big of a head to get away with DIY trimmer cuts :)
 
My mom is a cosme... cosmo....ehh, she has a license to do hair. I'm 34 and she's the only person who has ever cut my hair. And I've had the same haircut all my life, buzz it.
 
$5 hair cuts at the salon...if you wanna call it that. There's enough cigarette smoke in there that it would set off a smoke detector if she had one and enough dog hair to build three dogs laying around. But it's a $5 haircut that's great and she let's me work it off most the time to stop her toilet from running or replace a light bulb. Been going there close to 25 years.
 
Salon. I'm fiercely loyal to whoever does a good job, so I'll follow them around to different shops if it's convenient. Men, women, don't care. It's harder to find someone that doesn't bounce around to different shops than it is to find someone who does a good job, so I normally have to find a new favorite every two years or so.
