Hardest accelerating car you've drove/rode in?

I love the idea of taking my jeep where 95% of people would never think of driving, but I still have an itch for something quick.

For me it all started with my parents saying I was not allowed to own a V8 car while living at home. My dad lost his friend to a wreck in a Hemi car back in the day. I found my way around this when a coworker suggested a Turbo Regal. Shortly after buying a 87 GN I became friends with someone that used to work for a shop that modified them in Houston. After some tuning & a few parts upgraded I had an 11 second car. Now there are a lot of 11 second cars that just don't feel the same. When we dyno'd it I understood why. 360HP, 500ft/lb! If you could get it to hook, it would pin you in the seat HARD! I sold it while in college. My wife has no idea what a sacrifice driving my VW is for me, but it sure does save us money till we can get more debt paid down.

So from my experience:
87GN
09 Z06 Vette (way out of my price range, comfy ride, quick without putting the fear if God in ya)
73 240Z 3.0 I6 Turbo (heavily modified w/ 90's Haltech fuel management, separate fuel system for pump/race gas)

So what are some you've experienced?

Good friend of mine is quite a car guy. I got to take his '12 Caddy CTS-V for a joyride this summer. It accelerated HARD. I had trouble finding room to really open it up in the country. He tossed me the keys when he got it but still won't let me drive his '11 ZO6:lol: :wtf:

With all that said I still love the monster torque of a bombed diesel:D

My current Duramax with PPE programmer is up there, but the fastest would be my college roommates 680rwhp built LT1 Camaro. Unfortunately, he never drove it like I wanted because the supercharger would bust the belt if he let off too fast, so the most enjoyed was the LS1 Camaro he had before that with heads, cam, and 150 shot of nitrous. Well over 500hp spraying, took down basically everything we raced in Gastonia and Hickory, including a Viper and some "built" mustangs "drag cars", hahaha.

Your friend didn't work at Sears in Gastonia selling tools did he? That LS1 camaro sounds a lot like one my friend worked on. I know it was fast for 150shot on it. A 150 wet shot on a LS1 was fun. The car I remember also suffered an intake backfire. It wasn't pretty on a stock plastic runners.

I got to drive a built as shit Cougar once. I have no idea the specs, but I ran it up to third before feathering the accelerator to get traction. I don't think the car went 30 feet boiling the tires. When I let off the gas we drifted under hard acceleration for some time. I still can believe I did crash the damn thing

A buddy on here just sold his Supra... put down 550, so not wildly high numbers. But 2jz with a t72... and once that bitch was spooled, you were planted. Fun ass car. Shall be missed.

my 84 buick gn, upgraded.

back when I was about 19 my buddy bought a factory 71 roadrunner with the 440 six pack and the air grabber hood it had the hemi 4speed behind it and a dana 60 with 4.10 gears I tried to buy the car first but was a few bucks short he paid 2000 for that car in 1976 and still has it unrestored we had some scary and great times in that car that thing would just burn the tires down in the first 2 gears and finally take off like a scalded dog in 3rd. it was also the fastest I went in a car a about 135mph pretty scary in an old mopar that handled like a shopping cart wish I had that car today

I can't believe two people have posted about GN's. The first thought in my head when I read the thread title was a little ole 6 banger GN. I've always wanted one but can't find one in descent shape for less than 15k or so. It's been a while since I've priced one.

If anyone knows someone with one that would trade for an 87 Iroc let me know.

The guy in J-ville that I sold my 40" Xterrains to had a twinned 03 Dodge CC, long bed, 4x4. He took me for a quick spin down the road and put it sideways at 45mph with 33x12.50s on it.

My mom's cousin has a 2012 ZR1 Vette though....so it's a close one :D

Comes down to my buddy's '70 Chevelle with a pump gas 496 BBC and 400 trans or my '69 drag truck with a 406 and 4 speed muncie. Chevelle was quicker no doubt but traction was no where to be found on the street. With my '69, Id leave the line at 5200rpm on the two step and side step the clutch. The first 60ft were intense, lifted my stomach every time. Note to self, need stop messing with the Jeep and get the truck back out.

Fastest I ever drove was a Porsche 930. I worked at the Porsche dealer when I was 18. They actually let me drive those things!
I nailed that 930 on Independence Blvd in Charlotte and it pinned me back in the seat and scared the crap out of me! :D

My brother is an engineer for GM and as part of their "ambassador" program, he gets to borrow some pretty nice rides on occasion. For his birthday he borrowed a new SS Camaro and got to burn the tires a bit, but he said the Cadillac CTS-V he borrowed to take his daughter to see Taylor Swift had it beat for all around performance and the sleeper factor. She was bummed when he pulled up in it because she was expecting a Vette or another "sports car", but when he opened it up and it threw her back in the seat about 6 inches, her eyes opened way wide. "Best Birthday EVER".

I used to have a 94 Honda Prelude VTEC that was pretty fast and nimble. I liked it living in Michigan because if the roads were the least bit slick, I caould take on just about any domestic muscle car back then. It looked like a chick car, so nobody really took me seriously, but it could launch something serious.

I've always had the "go fast" itch too and it gets me in trouble, that is why I drive Jeeps. No chance of getting in trouble with a Heep unless you build the crap out of it.

Fastest stuff I've driven;
69 GTO Judge tri power, that car could pull hard!
99 SVT Cobra convertible Mustang, bone stock it would run and the wife and I had to get rid of it before we lost our license.
87 5.0 LX Coupe Mustang. I bought it new and pulled the motor with 8miles on it and started building it. It was fun but almost impossible to hook up with the stock suspension.

Beleive it or not the fastest was a vw bug. It was the street verison of the hyper bug..... The race car runs 6.60s

Diggin' the Coupe Jody! Nice ride! I built mine as a multi purpose car but would have loved to make it launch like that just once!

For me it's a toss up between my brothers tubbed 67' Chev and a buddies Supra. Both just about ripped my face off and left me clawing for something to hold onto but in completely different ways. Both have north of 500 dyno hp at the rear wheels but turbo vs big block torque...

Just a heads up. These cars are quick, but are VERY expensive to build now. Even after a good build you start running into design limitations like head bolt design, etc. if you were to buy one you'd have to educate yourself on where to get good machine work done. The oil tolerances are tight for a GM engine. Roller cams are about the only option as the only flat tappet that would last was the stock piece. I do like them, but to own another I'm not sure. Turbobuick.com is a good source.

For me it's my 93 Coupe. It'll pull a low 1.30 60 foot time. 5000 rpm launch on a 175 shot with a Spec ceramic clutch. It'll pin ya back...HARD.View attachment 58300
Nice 60'. thats definitely slamming you in the seat! Oh the feeling of launching a car with slicks on a sticky track! Like nothing else.

I'm enjoying all the unusual quick rides too. I don't think I'd have the guts to drag race an old truck. Going 135 in an old original 60's or 70's anything sounds scary.

my 12V - 8.4@90, 2.xx 60' in the 1/8th on some 245/70 Firestones. With that trap speed and such a sucky 60', you can imagine the acceleration in the last 330' of the track.
