Don't take this as snarky. So the spare is useless.
Many folk do this...but for a truck I tow regularly with I account it toward breaking some golden rule of motoring.

It's not useless, I did use it while getting my other tire fixed. So it got me out of a jam. I agree it's not ideal.
In 20 years its probably only the 2nd time I've needed a spare.
