I stand by my statement. Just a random break-in, they got lucky and then had to figure out WTF to do.

I just went to the station to pick up my helmets and other equipment they had to photograph and print. The detectives told me one one guy cracked and gave up someone higher up the chain for leniency. Turns out this was planned, those bikes were specifically targeted and were going to be on their way to somewhere in VA. This guy gave up all of them, told them all the nights they'd come by to case the garage and then returning with tools.

What happened next was even better! He went over and asked the neighbor if they had seen anyone on their property and the asshat said no. Buddy went and looked at the camera footage and there the neighbor was taking the signs. So he goes back over and gets the neighbor and tells him he needs to look at something so he shows him the video of him stealing the signs and the business end of a .45. Told him if he ever caught him on his property again he would be shot. The guy ended up moving about 6 weeks later. End of story!
