High Dollar tool boxes

Well Logan and I got two of the last 4 in Asheville. My FIL got another so if you're looking for one it's at the Home Repo in East Asheville :flipoff2:

I've always laughed at mechanics who tried to rationalize buying expensive boxes. There is no argument you can make that will hold up to the math. None.
I would buy a used one, sure. But not new. It's a complete waste of money. All it does is hold your tools.

You can get one for less than a grand from Northern Tool that will have roller bearings (does anything NOT these days?) that will last longer than you'll live to use it. And if it doesn't? Who cares? Buy another one. You'll be THOUSANDS to the good. Hell, buy one every 5 years, you'll never spend as much as one of the tool truck models.

Are the "better"? Sure. Heavier-duty. Thicker. Yep, no doubt. Does it make any difference? Nope.

My old transmission man that was my team leader at a local dealership retired last year. He never had anything but a Craftsman box, and I think he might have bought an OLD used Mac bottom box. All sliding drawers. They were older than most folks here have been doing their jobs. Still working fine, and he's still using them at home, and he was the best transmission man you've ever seen. A box is a luxury, like having a diesel for a daily driver...there is no math you can do that will back you up that it's "worth it" to buy one of these apartment-sized boxes.

Take care of your tools and keep them neat and organized so you are efficient while you work. This will make you $ even if your organized method is a cardboard box. :)

I have Snap on boxes, cheap Craftsman boxes, Husky, Kobalt, and now this new box.

I hate the cheap Craftsman boxes. Once I get time I'm trashing them. The older husky boxes have slides that hang up a lot and it's really annoying. However, the big Snap On box I bought used took a beating before I ever owned it and now I use it as my primary box and probably have it overloaded and it still works flawlessly. I don't know if I'd spend the $ on a new pro box, but I can sure see why they are $ and how much they ease the frustration of having and using crappy boxes.

The Harbor Freight ones are better than the Northern ones

The actual mark up on the boxes are astounding.
I bought a 3year old SnapOn box used for $1700, box sold new for a little over $4600. Had that box for about a year and traded it in on a MAC MAXIMISER, was given $3750 trade in on the SnapOn box. Mac box retailed $5100.
Old box was for sale the next week for $1000

After owning a lower grade Snap On box, and then looking at the HF boxes, I decided to pass and get a bigger Snap On box. There was just too much flex in the drawers on the HF boxes, and I'd already had issues with drawer flex on my old Craftsman box.

Cool story, bro.

For only $50 I'm seriously thinking of buying one and painting it pink for my 6 yo daughter to use for her jewelry and trinkets (and tools!)
She's been begging for a pink toolbox for years since she saw one at Sears. I told her once she learns how to use the tools I'd buy her one.

My wife is a "princess". She's prissy, and that's the way I like my women. She use to have this cart in the bathroom for her makeup like you see at those fancy hair cuttin' places for prissy wimmins. But they'd fall apart under the weight of all the stuff she'd ask it to hold. I finally talked her into something logical to use for her make-up, and hair stuff.

It may seem like much, but it works! And yes, it came in pink, but she felt the black matched the room better  plus (see signature)
