Home Made CJ Bumpers

Im near jenks and greenlevel church.

Are you the one with several sami's in the front yard, or the near stock brown CJ, with hard top spare tire cover, or neither?

Hey what Size of tubing did you you use on the bumpers? I'm getting ready to order some material and like the way yours looks. Did you get a winch plate or is that something you made?

Back bumpers awsome! Great job!

2"x4"x3/16" rectangular tubing for bumpers
2"x3/16" flat plate to make caps on bumper ends and swing-out carrier and various mounting tabs
7"x4"x3/8" angle for winch plate
3.5"x3.5"x1/4" angle for mounting plates on front
2"x2"x1/8" square tubing for swing-out tire carrier frame
2"x3"x1/8" rectangular tubing for bottom bar of swing-out, thought the wider bottom piece looked better
2"x3"x1/4" rectangular tubing for rear mounting spacers
12ga sheet for the box mainly because it was free, left over from a local construction job and was given to me

I bought 1/2" thick mounting plates predrilled for the rear, winch hoop, all four shackle mounts and the tire mounting plate also predrilled for 5 on 5.5 rim from a guy on jeepforum, I'll give you his email if your interested in any of these pieces. Great guy to deal with, out of Va, shipped to my house.

I bought the hitch mounts from agri-supply, northern tool also carries them. Made the chain plate from the 2"x3/16" plate, kinda small, but don't really plan to pull a trailer anyway, if i do, it will be a small trailer

the 7"x4" angle works perfectly for the winch plate, but the 3/8" steel was a little thick for me to drill and cut the are for my fair lead with my limited tools of a chop saw, small drill press and a 4 1/2" angle grinder with cut-off wheels. It was the same width as the outer dimensions of the front frame rails, around 30" i think, not cheap to buy, unless you find somewhere that will sell you a drop piece like i was lucky enough to.

I can get you some exact dimensions I used during my build if you want, but don't have them in front of me and can't remember them off the top of my head.

Thanks for the complements guys, and if you want to know anything else about them, just ask.

Thanks, I can get all the metal through the company where I work. I may check around some local metal shops for the 3/8" material. I'm lucky enough that I know where I can use a plasma cutter.

That would be sweet, took me a long time to cut out the hole for the fair lead with cut-off wheels, cut most everything to length with a 14" chop saw that worked very well.

Most places recommend 1/4" or so for the winch plates, but I have only seen the 7"x4" angle in 3/8", I'm sure it could be fabbed in thinner material

the one I got from A to Z was $46.95 plus shipping, wasn't timken bearings, I forget the brand, but bearings, seal, castel nut, carter pin and dust cap was included

Damn, wish I knew you were getting that stuff. I have everything sitting right here in my garage...

I'll do more searching next time I have a project
