How are you posting photos now?

Gate.com

Buy a domain. I've had mine for 19 years. Costs me $99 a year, Well PLUS $50 a year to.....cant remember who controls the web, but THEM too.

I get like 100 email addys and enough hosting to flood the net with pics.

I did it because I was tired of changing emails every time I changed providers, plus I too wanted to host pics. Haven't looked back

I just upload to NC4x4 directly. Shawn gives us unlimited file space for like $5/year.

And videos to YouTube then link em.

You can upload them directly into your posts, or put them in the little gallery thing.

We have plenty of space. Might as well use it.

On this topic...anyone have an idea of how to transfer the photos from PB that's better than saving to your device, and uploading to the new host one by one???

I usually use IMGUR. I dropped Photobucket about a decade ago.

I can link to an album, direct to full-sized images, or I can add an "s" "m" or l" at the end of the filename to adjust the size of the picture to match the forum's formatting.

I'd use NC4x4 to host, but this isn't the only place I post pictures and every site has different rules on what you can upload.

I have about 900+ pics still on pb that I wish I could get back. :(

Sounds good. What about sites that don't allow direct posting and you have to use a host site. Whats good now?

You can just link them from here.

Replace "pb" with "webshots" and I'm in the same boat. I still have most of it on usb hard drive, but not convenient to access. If Google Photos up and quits one day, I'm screwed.

Oh yeah, you can also do it with Google Photos, but I find the sharing and linking functions to be mildly cumbersome.

Anything is subject to get gone in the future. Any other photo host might be next to follow photobuckets model.

Hosting your own has its pitfalls...i host my stuff on smugmug....but you have to be careful if you reoeganize/rename directories or galleries, and break links. Same if you put on your own web space/domain.

Best answer: pay Shawn the five bucks. (Only disadvantage is not re-sharing the image to other forums.)

You can download the entire album then upload to whatever service you choose in batch. No need to do one by one. I just removed all mine from PB.

Thanks...didn't know I could download an entire album, never saw the option on mobile, so I'll look from the laptop. And haven't done an album on Nc4x4 but most forums I'm on that host only allow 1-5 pics uploaded at a time.

If you use the photo gallery thing that's here, there are URLs in the sidebar that you can copy/paste to post the image elsewhere.

Same if you put on your own web space/domain.
Domain is no different than a cloud (someone ELSE'S server)

As long as you don't change the folder/directory name nothing changes. I've still got pictures hosted to forums from the 90's because the url has never changed.

With all "cloud" based systems, if you don't have a backup somewhere on a local drive....well...thats not real smart. Never count on a host for an only copy!

I'm pretty sure the collective internet just RAGE-QUIT photobucket.

I used them for almost a decade now, and suddenly all my threads all over the half dozen gun/jeep forums show dead pictures.

I've been trying to do this but it's crashing every time.
