how do I save a webpage for personal use/reference?

since you decided to raise the bar...how is a PDF portable?

You can easily move files in original form

"portable document format [¦pörd·ə·bəl ‚däk·yə·mənt ′fȯr‚mat]
(computer science)
A computer file format for publishing and distributing electronic documents (text, image, or multimedia) with the same layout, formatting, and font attributes as in the original. The files can be opened and viewed on any computer or operating system; however, special software is required. Abbreviated PDF."

i.e. you can carry it from computer to computer, OS to OS, and the formatting won't change, due to compatibility and Fonts. One of the biggest issues is not having the same fonts from computer to computer. a PDF takes care of that issue without converting the text to a graphic.

just to further add, this is why most documents you can download off of the Web are PDF-based (not M$ Word and such)... b/c that way anybody can read it, regardless of what kind of computert hey have... Windows PC, Mac, Smartphone, Palm Pilot... TI...

As a footnote, that's why the company Adobe has such a great foothold in the computer market, they realized early that it was better just give away the s/w to READ the files to everybody for free... so as a result, everybody used it... they became the de-facto standard... putting them in a great position to charge for other programs or for the s/w to CREATE the docs (e.g. Acrobat Pro).

(in short : Adobe = Smart, Microsoft (charge for everything) = successful only by brute force)
