How fast is your Internet connection?

I use DSLREPORTS.COM go to the FAQ section and search for "MTU" also if you are using a DSL modem and running it to a router consider a Netgear combination Modem/Router. I think they come in Cable and DSL versions. If you tweak the MTU, set it the same in all devices. If you pay for 3M ADSL and arent getting it, report the trouble. at&t is upgrading lots of the backhaul carriers this year at a rate I have never seen before.

sorry about the multiple posts but I keep remembering stuff. For a simple improvement in resolving domain names use OpenDNS DNS servers instead of the default ones (leaving it blank). See opendns.com all it does is take the typed in web address and convert it to an IP address for your browser, same as your ISP does but I noticed it is faster.

Only 2 people on my Uverse section (not sure the technical term). Designated with a 32/5 connection, but they limit web to 24/3.
Flash, pdf viewing, and possibly video chat are just about the only thing that the average user would need something over maybe 3 or 4 mb/s. I agree with jdubb, average users won't really need anything over 3 or 4mb/s on the average day.
jdubb, you tried www.onlive.com yet? I was fairly impressed by it, but even with amazing internet speeds, there is still a bit of a lag.
the term is VRAD video ready access device

Papa the one above yours in the best I have seen, Yours is below the average, But still with in reason.
The higher the numbers the better.

Working for the State does have it's advantages. What we lack in pay/benefits, they make up for in Internet speed :flipoff2:

holy crap, RR Light sucks
hmm...Timewarner guy came out this morning, cuz our connection was timing out and generally not working the past few days. He found a loose wire outside, crimpo had gone bad. It seems a lot better now, but the download speed doenst show as much an increase as I hoped. On the upload time, I wonder if TW is capping my speed since I'm only paying for RRLight

This is with 4 computers running through a wireless Netgear router. Seems like we picked up 3 or 4mb/s with the Netgear over a Linksys.

Matt

the biggest issue i see with a lot of these are the ping times.
if you game on the internet anything above a 50ms ping is going to cause latency issues(you get shot first)
you should also check your speeds going to a different server(not the one they suggest)

here is mine at work. i pay for 5down 1up

way to bump a 2 year old thread

That said, my internet has been pretty strange here lately, mostly disconnecting me from Xbox Live...but, at least it looks decently fast.
