I was talking with a coworker about commute times and I thought this might be an interesting poll and thread. There is one guy here at my work who drives 1.5 hrs each way every day!

My commute is about 40 minutes due to dropping my son off at school.

My house in Thomasville to my business in Greensboro , 18 minutes no stops leave the house at 7 , commute home 20 minutes leaving Greensboro at 5. Friday mornings a bit longer because fatboy treats himself to Biscuitville. It's the perfect commute for me, any longer and I'd feel like I was wasting half my life driving back and forth while counting the days until I could retire.

Just a little over 5 minutes. I can do it in 5.5 on most days.
Over the years I've driven upwards of 1.5 hour round trip to get to work. Damn that .

Live in Shelby, NC and work in York, SC. 40 miles of driving each way. With security process at a Nuke plant, 1 hour from door step to office chair. Been doing it 10 years. Only 20 more to go.

Right now 4 miles takes me 7mins. But many years I did 1hr to Winston followed by 1.5-2hrs to the South Park/Ballantyne area. Got a hotel instead of driving home on numerous ocassions in Charlotte depending on what day it was/time I left the office/what events were going on.

Use to be a guy here in my office that lives in North Wilkesboro. Grew up there. It was all he knew. His commute was 55 miles driving directly into the sun on 421 to come to work in Winston. And 55 miles home driving directly in the sun.

I mean, if you add all that time up over 20 years.....

I'd feel like I was wasting half my life driving back and forth while counting the days until I could retire.

The older I get, the more valuable my time is. I've passed up MANY offers that involved D.C. Charlotte, RTP that were for considerably more, but there's a "cost" associated with everything. I like living where, in every direction when I live my neighborhood I have to drive past a cow pasture, but yet I'm only 12 minutes from anything I want.

I live in winston and commute to the west side of Greensboro. Not bad, about 25-28 min.

Side note, a dude I work with drives from freaking Jefferson NC. Screw that!

Now its 12 minutes.
For 14 years it was 1hour and 35...but I only did it a few times a week.

My neighbor just got a job in North Wilkesboro. And drives, daily, from Sharon, SC to North Wilkesboro.
I am not sure how they make any money.

Amen...that was a critical point of my current role. Could have literally doubled my current salary if I stayed working in the Charlotte area. But at the cost of 3 extra hours driving every day, and probably 60-80hr work weeks rather than 35-40hr work week and a 7min commute.

1.75 hours for years for to Cary from Greenville then 1.25 hours for a few years. Right now it’s 2.5 hours, so I alternate days when I stay out of town versus commute.

My 17 mile commute takes about 45 minutes...gotta love this PA traffic/congestion. Too many people around here. Correction -- too many STUPID people around here.

The past 10 months I was driving about 1 hr each way from Trinity to the north side of Winston. It was enough to make a decent job really bad.

I'm starting a new job on Monday, so my commute will be about 12-15 minutes. Gaining 1.5 hrs in my day is going to be great

9 miles...45 minutes door to door. NW side of Charlotte to BoA Corporate Tower in uptown. This includes a 10 minute walk from where I park to the office.

About 30 miles from Camden, SC to my office/shop in Hartsville, SC. It's through the woods and depending on weather I get behind a log truck of something of that nature takes 40 minutes.

35 miles. Kings Mountain to Charlotte. When I have to be at work at 0500, it takes 35 mins. Those days I get off around 2 and have about a 40 min drive. Other weeks when I don’t open, it can take anywhere between 35 mins to over an hour. Dysfunction junction (485 to 85 S) and Gaston County is the cause of slowdowns.
