For years I slept 2-3 hours a night tops.
Like as a 12 year old my mom took me to specialists and shit. I could lay down at 9 and be awake at 11:30 and physically couldnt get back to sleep for ~20 hours. Same deal if I laid down at 3AM....made life great all through college and early child rearing....somewhere around 30 years old life kicked my ass.

I physically cant sleep until usually 12-1A (I usually lay down at 10)...I struggle now to get up at 630 and frequently sleep in until 730 these days.
Its a source of much frustration and borderline depression for me. I cant control my sleep habits. At its worst Ill medicate with alcohol to get to sleep by 11...

I take one 10mg melatonin tablet when i am not tired, but need to fall asleep. They are supposed to help reset normal sleep patterns. They work great for me. Ive been taking prednisone for the last 8 days due to a neck injury and that crap has been keeping me awake. I have had to take the melatonin every night to get some sleep.

I figure around 6hrs on average, but that's using what time I go to bed & wake-up, no telling when I fall asleep or how much time sleeping is actually with my body at rest. I get ~4-5hrs during the week and just wake up whenever during the weekend. I keep making up excuses for not going to have a sleep study done...

I take melatonin too, but the 3mg tablets. Read somewhere that anything over 5mg doesn't help (on the interwebz, so it has to be true!), plus the 3mg tablets help my dog's noise anxiety during thunderstorms so its a two birds with one stone deal. Alcohol has helped, but I try not to get dependent since alcoholism runs in my family. Also, in a pinch I'll take a sleep aid/muscle relaxer (LegatrinPM), but it takes 2-3hrs to kick in and make me feel tired...if I don't take it earlier than 8, I'm groggy & worthless for the first couple of hours in the morning.

I usually go to bed between 10 and 11 and get up at 3:30 to 4am for work. I work 5-3, Monday through Thursday. On the weekends, I sleep in until the dogs wake me up about 6:30-7:30 because they want food or something

This week I am getting about 4 hours sleep and working 14 - 16 hour days outside. Usually I get about 8.

Several years ago i tried reducing my sleep hours. I found that 6 hrs was my bare minimum, but i felt tired on that amount and did not have as much energy. I think i gave it a try for a few months too. I wish i could get by on less sleep.
