A couple of the for sale threads got me thinking. I am wondering how may miles realistically a 4.0 can go before it needs a rebuild (or better yet a stroker rebuild!).

So how many miles have you put on a 4.0 before it blew? How many miles do you have on your 4.0 right now?

I will start.

98 Wrangler 4.0 with 215,000 miles and still going.

I've had a Renix with 330+ and a 95 with 440k

When I was still at the dealer, we had a customer with 310,000 on an 87 when it let go. Jeep was in such good shape, we installed a Mopar reman and it's still on the road.
I used to see them over 220k frequently on the original engine. They may leak and smoke a little, but they keep on going!

Mine is a little over 200k right now. We have gotten a lot in with over 300k. One 92 2-door 5-spd one I got in had 460k miles on it, it was my neighbors and the mileage was correct. Actually drove it to the shop and it ran as good as some of the 100k miles we get in.

My 94 went 289,000 before I blew a head gasket and busted a piston.

Mine was around 45k when it went and I stroked it in 2003. No fault of the engine though. Thats what a massive radiator failure while going down the interstate will do. Now it has about 50k miles on the stroker motor (97k total I think), all of which was put on it from 2003-2008ish, and it sees maybe 100 miles a year. Still cranks and runs great even though its only cranked about once a month.

We sold the wife's ZJ a couple years ago with about 250k on the original engine. It used a quart or so of oil between oil changes, but our neighbors daughter is still driving it, gotta be getting close to 300k.

180, 000 on a 2000 XJ. Runs out very well. Leaks some oil. Been replacing things last year or so. Starter, alternator, radiator, o2 sensors...... hope to have a stroker built before it explodes.

We had an 02 Grand Cherokee with 212k when we sold it. Had a tick but ran great. Regret selling. Had a 96 Grand Cherokee with 195k, it struggled to move.

My '97 XJ had 395,000 on the clock and was still pretty strong but it leaked like a sieve. Chose to find a lower mile option and did a "light" rebuild (ALL gaskets, seals, oil pump, and sensors) before it went back in the Jeep. Honestly I think the old motor had better power lol.

I had 275K on a '93 ZJ 4.0 When a deer hit me and I sold it on here. Other than burning oil, she ran great. I've got a '98 XJ in the driveway that runs like a champ at 206K right now. Getting ready to send my daughter off to college with that one. Just need to run through and put some new gaskets around it.

I remember, it had Carolina Rock Shop front and rear bumpers that I eventually bought and put on mine.

Gr8tops posted this morning that he sold his Recruit JK to a surveyor that was previously using his 97 TJ for work. 648,855 miles, original motor, 3rd transmission.

133k on '00 XJ. Had some leaks when I bought it, but not bad. Previous owner disclosed all of it. Changed oil filter adapter gasket, valve cover gasket, rear main seal and now not one single leak. Doesn't quite seem right for a 17 year old I6. lol
Burns no oil, runs strong and tight. No complaints except for the occasional heat soak common with the 00-01 XJs.
