How Much Are Young Guys Spending On Engagement Rings?

As Redneck as this sounds, I got my wife's ring at Wal-Mart. $600. It is real (I had it appraised) and oddly enough she gets lots of compliments on it. The best part was the wedding band I bought through E-Bay for $25 makes the combination look like it was a couple grand.

More important than all that, though is that almost 7 years later, she still loves it and would want nothing bigger or better on her finger. I can't say that about my first wife whose ring was 10x more expensive and it lasted less then 2 years.

Along those same lines. i saw some nice rings at Sams Club awhile back.

sam's club's front page had a several million dollar ring the other day.

That said, the 2 or 3 months salary thing is insane.
I spent way to much on my ex wife's and that ended as well, she's an ex.
:D

I was a private in the Marines, and I paid $875.00 about 10 years ago. 2 years ago I bought a new one for a good bit more, she picked it out....
I've always heard 3 months salary, witch depending on who's salary could be a lot or a little. About 5k should get you a few "favors" for years to come.... but.... DON'T DO IT! Buy JEEP parts!!! :D

my wife picked out a "set" (engagement and band) from helzberg in the mall, it was like $1099. she likes it, i like the price. everybody wins. it's 1/3 carat, anything bigger looks off cuz her hands are small. her mom has like a 3/4 carat and it looks stupid big....

We are a little wierd anyway, But both Jon and I got ours off ebay. He got three he did not like and sent it back, and ended up with a perfect one :D lets just say my ring was paid for just a drop in the bucket compared to the appraisel sheet. He bought the diamond off ebay and then bought the setting we both liked from a local guy. 1.5 carat

Him, his is aprasied at 3k, and I paid less then 500

Edit, also Jon bought two cheapo rings so he can wear them while working without damanging his :D

 I only have one ring, a very simple but sparkly pave eternity band. I have a silver ring that I wear as a "stunt double" for camping or anything where I want to be wearing something but don't want to take the chance of damaging the real one.

Buy a 2-3 Karat CZ in a white gold setting for $200 bucks.

She will never ask if it's real.

You can tell her it's not real when you get separated.

I got pretty darn lucky with both the wife and the ring.:D
I inherited my grandmothers old ring that was from the 1920's...not worth a ton(but not exactly rinky-dink either)and it is very very cool and unique.... and Kristyn loved it!!
Its not all about the money, and if you find one that agrees, KEEP HER!

X2...

Although I had looked around for a while before hand... I never really found a combination with what i was looking for... I agree with above that clarity, color and cut are more important than size...

If I didnt luck up, I had planned to shop around a pawn shops, jewelry stores, etc for the stone I wanted in any piece of jewlery and then have it put into the setting I wanted...

I did notice though that lab created diamonds are cheap online... but they arent much better then CZ IMO

i bought a used ring from a local classified section. it was just the diamond no setting it was apraised and insured at $12000 and i paid about 1/3 of that .. so check used. i also paid about $450 for the setting

Check out Ellis Jewlers in Lexington. I bought the setting, and then picked out the diamond. They have something for what ever you want to spend, plus they have great service. That's where I got Mary's engagement ring and wedding band.

I bought my wife a set and the total carat was aronud 2 carats. Cost me 5400.00. When you start looking you see it is extremely easy to spend tons of money.

I bought my lady an engagement ring the week after Christmas. She had looked at several rings at the Sam's Club in Johnson City and liked them.

I went to a local little place and looked for several days at lunch at rings just like the ones from Sam's. Then one day we just happened to be out and stopped by. Boy, I am glad I didnt buy one cause once we were there she looked at completely different styles of rings. We went and looked at several stores, both local and chain places. She kept looking at the same styles so I knew what she wanted.

Went back to the first store and said lets talk price. The ring was 3900$. They got the calculator out and said they could do 2500$, cause it was on sale. This was when I knew it was a racket, I mean they came down 35% without me even trying. I got my wallet out and asked what it would take if I started counting out 20s. 1400$ out the door.

She loves it, at least she says she does. July 16 is coming up fast.

$20 :flipoff2: not even joking my baby likes the claddagh style rings which aren't very expensive

Took my wife to go pick one out. She picked out one that was about nine hundo and is still very happy with it 9 years later! I told her she could get a bigger one if she wanted and she said no. I was planning on spending up to 2500 yep I have an awesome wife! She ended up getting a 1/4 princess cut and I got a titanium ring for about 80.

If you need help figuring out the in's and outs of the ring stuff read up here www.BlueNile.com I've bought diamond earrings for the wife from them when we were dating and they were at my door the next day, and that's standard with them! I ended up buying her ring from a local jewelry store in town I think it was a 1/2 carat round cut white gold. Don't remember how much but it sure was worth it!

I took my wife ring shopping and she looked at a few styles then picked out some that she really liked, ishe picked out some smaller ones like 1/2 carat I picked the one style she liked but I waited a bit and bought her a 1 carat for half price and it sounds like a big stone but its 3 individual stones making a total of 1carat, so that it doesn't look rediculously huge on her small finger. I got it at zales on valentines day for $1200 normal price = $2400 I also got the lifetime diamond protection plan which covers resizing, loose settings, damage, lost diamond, etc... if you get the ring inspected twice a year by them that plan coovors most anything that could happen except for loosing the entire thing.
