How much have you spent building your rig ?

Wife says I got about 20k in my old truck I think its closer to 17 but maybe im blissfully ignorant she would know better than me. As far as time if you count all my friends time plus mine we got some where between 1500-2000 hours in fabrication and parts installation plus about a gallon of blood and two gallons of tears.what really hurts is when you add total cost of the wheeling setup with tow rigs,tools and trailers
 
I sold my 69 Barracuda,440,piles of parts to save money.Six months later,I bought my first cj3a Willys.I've spent waaaaaaayyyyyyyyy moire money on building Willys's than what it would of took to build that plymouth.That was back in 1990.
 
I guess I am a sick individual, because I keep spreadsheets of my expenses.

Almost $15,000 in my Ford Ranger cab truck. It doesn't look like it though. It started out as 85 FS Bronco I paid $2,700 for back in the fall of 2000. I then started the cab truck build in December of 2004. It has a lot of good parts (5.0 HO, C6, Atlas 4spd, D60 HP with Reid Knuckles, 35 spine Superior shafts, 14 bolt, 4.88 gears, lockers, 42" TSL's), but needed better execution of them. It has been parked for about three years or so now. I sold the tires and wheels off of it before putting it in storage. My plan is to buy a YJ next spring with a blown motor/tranny, and swap the entire drivetrain from the cab truck into the Jeep and link it with full hydro steering.

A little over $5,500 in my Samurai. That includes buying two sets of chromo shafts for the front. I bought it stock in the spring of 2005 for $800. It has been the best bang for the buck and the most fun to wheel by far. I've got most of the parts now in storage to link it on Yota axles.
 
Not enough choices. I would say over 20K, and still have things I'd like to do to it.

Now a better question would be, How much have you spent wheeling in the last 5, 10, 20, 30 years!

Thats a good question.I know I can expect at least $200 for a day trip to Harlan. A big event like fall crawl is probably closer to $350/$400 for the weekend.
 
Right now my samurai is coming in around 3500ish counting parts that arent on it yet. Ive did everything myself though and very rarely buy new parts. One reason why it takes me so long, but im pretty cheap so i dont mind waiting untill i get a good deal haha
 
I had 12-13k in my ZJ over the years,and that includes the purchase price, I got lucky and was able to sell it for $5500 last spring, not bad considering I wheeled and drove it for 7 years, and months on end as my sole ride. You lose that much day one with a new car. AXles, long arms, stroker, rebuild trans, rebuild tcase, tires, wheels, seats, armor, paint, extras, it adds up!!!
 
Had to add it up after seeing this. Got about 8k in parts and 16k for the truck when I first bought it. Probably got another grand to put in it to get 4wd working. Ouch.
 
I was keeping a loose count on things until one day I added it all up and it was a little over $10k and my cage wasn't done yet. So I threw the paper away and haven't thought about it since, its going to cost what it cost but the fun in the end will be all worth it. The good times out on the trail with friends and just being outside is worth way more than that money just sitting in the bank.
 
I've had the same truck since I started. I easily have over $20k but if you looked at it you'd never be able to tell where. I've swapped axles 4 times, tranny about 4 times, wheels and tires 4-5 times, 4-linked the rear 3 times (had to change it because of drivetrain mods), swapped fuel systems 3 times and broke numerous times. Like I said, it doesn't look it but I know I've dumped a shit ton over the past 10+ years.

Just to make you feel better. I dont even have a jeep yet but I have made a spreadsheet with the price of the jeep and all parts and any labor that I would have to get anyone else to do. I also have it broken into "Stages" so that I know what order I can afford it in.
 
If you count my sponsorship I am at about $35,000-40,000..... That being said I have had a lot help from sponsors in the last 2 years.

I've had my YJ since is was bone stock. Was given to me by my Uncle so I'd have something dependable to drive to college. Since, its been on 31s, 33's, 36's, 38's and now 39.5's. With several different axle/trans/t-case/motors. From what the last phase was to the current build is around $8k. Since I've owned prob around $15K-$20K.

I did not count parts that I bought used for a short time and resold I don't think that should count if their was a return on any parts.

Over 20k
Started out with a YJ on rocks with leaf springs, 4.0, 5 speed, stock seats an dash, etc.
Still on rocks, Built a 355 on pane, Th350, 203/205 doubler, fox air shocks, 4 linked, stripped all wiring an dash, striped it all nothing left from when I bought it but the jeep frame an body. Just removed the 355 an put in a LQ9 6.0. an it keeps going. :eek:
