How to unload an auto transport...

3/4 years ago they had a train derail that was loaded w ford cars/trucks.It happened on US21 just outside of Wytheville VA.We were thru here about two days after it happened, talk about a mess.

Not the most graceful uh "unloading" process, but it might actually make the X3 and X6 look better!

Looked like some of the cars came off the track and were up right youd think if the cars inside were strapped they wouldn't move and quite a few could have been saved

Would *you* buy a car that had been in a train wreck?

And BMW...sell one of those cars? If it got into a fender bender 5 years on, BMW would get their pants sued off because the "severe damages to the braking system suffered in a train derailment in 2016...."

I see what you were saying. And expected that answer but I still don't think all of them were totaled but they made damn sure they were. To me makes more since to keep them together and sell them to yards needing high end parts for new cars

You have to consider the additional cost of getting them off "intact" however they were, in light of what is saved through the sale to a yard.
How exactly would you do it, quickly, given that they are in the way of the cleanup?
From BMW's standpoint they will just file an insurance claim. Well actually they'll probably get a payoff from the shipping company. so they don't really care.
Remember they make hundreds of thousands of the cars. The cost of a BMW is a lot to our own personal budget but it's peanuts to them and this kind of thing is just the cost of doing business.

Points Well taken, but it's Still Sickening, seeing How they were handled! If not to be resold, they could have used them in the gov. Crash test!
Btw, didn't Troy Baker have a deposit on one of those? The Black one, That was it! Well, on to KIA!

No they can't. For exactly the same reasons it can't be sold to a person.
Unless a team of engineers can absolutely prove there was no damage, any results of the crash tests will be suspect. and remember, that team of engineers costs $$, by the hour, to operate. A lot of it.
Think about it, those tests are used to set the ratings and standards of the vehicles. Wouldn't you want the tests to be on a vehicle that is identical to the ones on the road?

Identical, yes. But seems like many had no damage, not that we can see 360 degrees. But like the Black SUV, being dragged out, I only saw a loose rear bumper cover, which may have been caused by the Hoe. That wouldn't have any effect in a frontal crash. Or if 1 was bumped up in the front or side, do a rear gas tank test crash. Whatever, Look for an insurance increase.

Pretty sure the railroad insurance paid them all as a total loss. Next big thing for the railroad was to get things cleared out as quickly as possible to get the tracks repaired and trains running again to make the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ back.

The Black one

Why dey always gotta put the BLACK ones down?

Shit's RIGGED!!! It's a conspiracy!

We didn't land on Plymouth rock, Plymouth rock landed on US!
