Hurricane Florence, assistance thread

Xjsavage is alive and well. Just now getting my phone situation fixed from last weekend's unfortunate kayaking accident.
All is stable in cola. Windy and spritzes of rain.
Thanks y'all!

Not sure if Pee Dee is. Wateree river was already high 2 days ago. If we get the 10 inches of projected rain it’ll be a mess down stream. They lowered the lake which made the river high.
Local news said that one might hit 35' and flood is 27' so it could get interesting. We have all Columbia stations here.

Everything is normal in Greenville other than some minor road closures.

Lost a tree in the back yard. Unfortunately it wasn’t the aggravating pine tree from the neighbor.

If anyone around needs help, by all means let me know. I do have a small tractor and plenty of tools to help if need be.

I'm up in Cleveland nc, in between Salisbury and statesville. I've got my biggass flatbed loaded up with fuel plus 90 gal extra an gear and can hook up my dump trailer and throw the tractor on there if needed. Not looking like much work is going to get done around here so I'm in to go wherever I am needed to help with cleanup. Shoot me a pm

Power is back on, internet too. Crisis averted.

The kids watched about an hour of broadcast TV. It blew their little minds. "Can you rewind it?" "No. No, I can not. You'll have to watch The Gruffalo from five minutes in."

Saws are all sharp and full of go juice. Maybe somebody will have something interesting to do in the morning.

Wind has kicked up a good bit in the last hour. Storm is between Myrtle and Florence now. My cousin in Aiken said she lost power and there are reports all over the pee dee of trees down and power outages. But we still have juice.... This storm looks like it will do its damage just sitting and spinning.....

Just talked to my dad in mullins. He said he was sitting on the porch reading a magazine. His power has been out for over 24 hours. His neighbor has a big gen so he's good.

In Lee County ER this morning....several times they announced there would be a planned power outage today, and there would be a brief blackout before generators kicked in. Been dark 20 minutes so far. Lucky things are slow.

Should have been back in 10 seconds...something not right

It came back a couple minutes after I posted. Elecrimagicians came to the cafeteria where I was shortly thereafter to eat. Company shirts said "InPwr". One guy spent most of his lunch on the phone trying to explain to the boss what happened.

Seemed it was a planned outage...dont know if Duke had to swap something due to storm damage, or work on site.

2nd test about an hour ago at the hospital. 10-ish seconds this time.

Nurse said generators didn't work at all when they 1st lost power. So much for monthly testing?

I'm probably going to be heading East sometime this week, post up if anybody needs anything. Most likely going to Smithfield, Selma, Kinston, New Bern, Pikeville, Fremont, Laurinburg, Lumberton, Red Springs, Southport & Greenville.

Does anybody have any news about West Fire Tower Rd & Industrial Blvd in Greenville, NC?

Most, if not all of the roads in Greenville are open. There may be one or two secondary road closures but as far as Fire Tower and Industrial, they are good. As flood waters rise and we continue to get rain, this may change.

Oh and if anyone is headed to New Bern or further east, plan on having a full tank of gas when you start heading that way as gas stations with fuel are few and far between and have really long lines. Also, bring food with you as most restaurants are not open and the police are controlling how many people enter grocery stores.

Bad near Boone.

Just got back from looking at the river, it’s high but nothing overwhelming. It’s not raining now, but expect the heavy rain to get here over night. I’ve been watching the radar and it looks like all the heavy rain is getting busted up when it hits black mountain. All the northern counties are getting hit hard

I see where a lot of people are trying to get back to Wrightsville Beach, Wilmington, and possibly South Port....just to get alllll the way there and not able to get in. I haven't hardly seen any pictures from those three places. That's mostly because nobody is there yet. No cell service, no power, no nothing. Plus, they're flooded like hell.

We fared well in Camden. Just small branches down. I just got to my office in Hartsville and its got some damage. Not looking forward to insurance company dealings..... Hope the house over here is ok.

Duke is estimating having power fully restored to:
Southport by the end of the day
Lumberton whenever the flood waters recede from Bullard Ave
New Bern by the end of the week

These are to Duke's wholesale delivery points (DPs), so the cities may be able to route power from other DPs to restore all their customers earlier than that or may take longer depending on what took a hit on their distribution system(s). The transmission line that feeds New Bern DP5 on Lewis Farm Rd has 14 trees on it & the static wire fell so Duke is estimating ~3 days to get it back to normal.
