So, @CasterTroy got me thinking when he mentioned refrigerant possibly changing for 2025. I have an ancient upstairs heat pump. It is original to my 1991 house. Is there any case where I would be ahead by replacing it ahead of time? It's never given me any problems, other than replacing the fan motor in the attic.

I'd also like to move both units to the side of the house, away from my covered porch.

From the sound of the vendors R454 will also be basically a bridge to full on R-32
Some mfgs are already on board with R-32 but who the hell knows what's next. I feel like R-32 is the DVR of refrigerant and digital is on the horizon.

Hell I know people with cans of R12 that are limping old cars along 🤦🏾‍♂️

The transition is the issue.
