Have a unit that's 5 years old, CARRIER brand, variable speed blower motor died Tuesday.

Unit has 10 year parts warranty, was told part was under warranty, $885 labor to install part.

this sound right ? the tech said takes right about an hour to do the job.

I'm either in the wrong business or I've really missed something.

I had all sorts of issues with my last carrier. Damn near replaced the whole unit by the time it was all said and done. Labor was never that much for any of it. Those guys would be out there half the day and it wouldn’t be that much. Sounds high to me. I’d shop around.

$885/hr? Looks like I am going back to school for a new profession!

Shop around, I have had good luck with the smaller, owner/operator HVAC repair then I have with the big chain companies, YMMV.

I called installing dealer for obvious reasons, apparently that wasn't the way to do it.

I was told "I had to pay 5 different people to get that part to you today, how do you think that happens ? "

Im in the service industry, I know how parts and distribution works, you don't get a whole days payroll from one job. Not saying my industry is not expensive, but even the ride over and time for install $450 an hour is insane. And honestly, dropping that on me just before install, even after install was not cool.

The phone call I got yesterday did say the part was warrantied but mentioned nothing about the actual labor charge, had it been and that was the number, they never would have been back out.

Did you DEMAND it be fixed the same day?

I would NOT pay that. And would file with the BBB

I stated I had a cancer patient in the house and would like to try and keep them comfortable, they’re going through enough as it is.

I paid for the after hours diag with the recommendation for repair STATING the PART was $885 and a few other “up sell service items” that were declined with the understanding that the part was under 10yr parts warranty.

The original service call was $107, paid without issue

I found a small hvac repair business. It was literally 2 guys and that’s it. They were way cheaper than the big name advertisers. I had one of the coils in the air handler in the attic replaced with those guys. Parts and labor were about $600. The part was almost the entire amount. Labor was next to nothing.

i looked up the part number of the motor, $235 on Amazon, it’ll be here Saturday, i saw a ratchet once..... and a volt meter....

My suspicion is they bill the high labor rate, use an aftermarket motor and file warranty and get that $$$ too. it’s not as sweet as the regular labor, just extra boot, “cuz we can”

Only reason they were called was because the damn thing was “under warranty”, which is pretty useless

i love that you can get damn near anything on Amazon, that the USPS can’t seem to deliver to the correct house is reasonably annoying, was delivered a block over from where I live.

Hour and change, and we’re cooling again.

Warranty void, screw ‘em, i’ll buy 4 of these before i pay what they wanted

I left a review on Google, they responded, wanna “make it right”

I’m just one chump that didn’t get fully chumped this time.

What about the ones that just give in....?

Take old one and sling it through their window

FAWK NO ! they'd take the core and send it in for warranty, and still make a buck.

The variable speed motors are trash. Went through one or two on our unit. Was told it was ‘due to lightning’. Covered under warranty but labor wasn’t that steep. Maybe $200. Now I’m being told that the cooling coil is starting to leak. Labor on that is estimated around $850! :(

Gibson?
They and American standard had a bad run of coils from 2007-2010 where they were developing pin holes at the straps.

$850 for an hour?

That's high baller prostitution rates right there. Should have asked if you get to keep the footage for PornHub.
