Ok so my tow rig was parked at the double lot. I did my best to keep the jeep off the rd all weekend but the officer did catch me fair and square when I took the rd for a 1/4 mile from rocky mtn loop. (Had camping gear piled high didn't wanna take the trail) my dilemma is instead of just getting a tickit for not being registered. I got 3 tickets... 1 for an inspection violation, 1 for expired tag on vehicle, and one for vehicle not registered... basicly got a ticket 3 times for the same thing. But anyways I asked him if I could just get it all caught up and bring the information to the judge or majistraye or whatever like I've done before and he said he didn't know it's a federal court thing? Can anybody clear this up? I really don't want to get stuck paying $300

Yeah, Foote was in true form yesterday being an absolute prick. The other Ranger was actually warning people about him.

I have had my share of tickets as you know, what I learned was... Pay the damn fines. It sucks, but if you don't pay them you have to get an attorney to fight them and it won't usually go well at the federal level, plus it takes forever. You have a while to get them paid off. Just do it.

Yep, totally different story on the Fed level. I dont think they will dismiss them like the county or state would, even if you did bring them up to par. GL

Well that sucks. And he is in the right to give me all 3 of those charges? What a dickhead.

If you didnt have insurance you are lucky you didnt get no insurance ticket. Also never run the wrong tag on a vehicle, that will get a nice ticket that lock up the tag for 30 days.....

We were parked at the double parking lot on Saturday morning and they were definitely out in force. I'm not familiar with the rangers there, but one of them gave me one hell of a stink eye when I came riding back into the double parking lot on the road on my CR250. No plates obviously. But the hand guard and clutch lever hanging off the handlebars was probably my saving grace. They didn't hassle me, but as I got out of my gear and loaded the bike they wrote tickets to some guys next to us on 4wheelers not long after they had unloaded.

Im OK with it, laws are laws. I think it will calm down the idiots out there especially the drunk ones. To the OP I hate it for you but you admitted wrongdoing so pay up. Out of curiosity why did he initiate the stop?

I spoke to them as we were leaving Saturday afternoon. The lady ranger said they got several people who unloaded and attempted to ride double that day. She said one group got real mad about it.

As far as the tickets go the registration and tag thing are two separate tickets. You can get a ticket for not having the registration even if the tags are good. You can also get a ticket if the registration isn't signed and you do have it, too.

Was Uwharrie packed last weekend? I'm guessing it was being closing weekend with good weather.

Damn, I wondered if they actually tagged people or just harassed them. A few years ago I was in there and still had MN collector plates on my CJ buggy and that was basically my free pass. Had MN tags on the tow rig, trailer and wheeling rig. Dude wasn't happy about my trip to the outpost but I technically had all the legal stuff for MN, just not NC. I was just visiting the beautiful countryside.

Sorry my98xj about the citations but it use to be a free for all back in the late 90's early 2000's when there wasnt a law enforcement presence. Alot of people were doing stupid things in and to the forest. Alot more drinking and not staying on the trails and generally just tearing the place up. The wheeling community asked for some help and we were able to get a LEO presence and now it is much better. Heck if things would have continued like it did back in the day I bet Uwharrie would have been closed down by now.

The jeep has insurance on it just haven't bothered to have it inspected and reregistered since I never drive it. I would have been better off with no tag which is b.s. infamous1 I assume you really enjoy loading and unloading your trailer 4 different times and hitching a ride back to the tow rig just to obey the "laws". I was bringing my camping gear back. It was piled high on the roof rack. Took the 1/4 mile rd as opposed to the 1 mile trail. Pulled up to the tow rig and he got me. Period. $300 worth of tickets seems outraguous.

The female ranger informed several members of our group that Foote was being ruthless.

Dude thinks the badge is a crown, granted the LEO presence has benefits of maybe intimidating the drunks to stay in the forest... but they are too lazy to actually patrol the trails where they need to be. They just sit in the parking lot and look for bad tags... Its a shame. I truthfully see no benefit to having them "patrolling" if that's what your gonna call it.
I've had plenty, for various stupid reasons. He wrote me a $100 tag ticket for the Comanche even though it was legal and I had proof of registration and insurance. Just didn't have anywhere to attach the tag, normally zip tied it on, and forgot it one time. Told me I could "Fight it at the federal level if I wanted, or just pay the fine"

It was a good crowd, but trails were surprisingly not cluttered.

Has anybody gone to court and got out of this stuff? If it was just 1 ticket for $100 I would probably just pay it. But $300 in charges from that dbag I really want to fight it in court.

Not trying to be a dbag, but you openly admit that you broke the law and that you didnt have proper registration etc,etc,etc...
You're going to spend more trying to fight it than it would cost just to pay it.

I got a driving without a license charge at Uwharrie (Same 1/4 mile stretch of gravel) while my license was suspended last year.

I contacted an attorney. He said it doesn't go even get reported and is basically a money making racket. As long as I paid the $100 fine, it went away.

I was advised to pay the fines and not worry about it.

Has anybody gone to court and got out of this stuff?

no. federal court isnt subject to the "good ol boy system". no back room deals, or cross the court room winks. guilty or not guilty. You violated the laws and any kind of argument you bring forth could border on perjury. Federal offenses are no fun.

What these guys have said.
Having been in your shoes and too stuborn to listen let me tell you how mine went.
Sir on x day were you operating X.
Yes.
Was it registered.
Well see whathad happened
SIR PLEASE ANSWER YES OR NO. WAS IT REGISTERED. Advised if you say yes and cant document it a charge of perjury will be added.
No.
Guilty.
Next charge.
Lack of insurance, do you have proof the vehicle was insured pursuant to section x.y.z on the x day of y month?
No.
Guilty. Next Charge

You can pay the fines or pay a lawyer and the fines. UNLESS you have proof any of the charges are not legit.

I enjoy loading and unloading my rig more than I enjoy handing over $300 bucks!!! Lol

Just pay the fines. Its a money making racket. You think they sat there by accident and just happened to get you? Granted, before Saturday it had been a while since I had been to the OHV trails, but in 10+ years of going there for wheeling or mountainbiking I have NEVER seen a Ranger sitting parked anywhere else in that entire park other than parking lots where people load/unload trailered rigs. Coincidence...I think not.

I received the same 3 traffic awards that you speak of. You should receive a couple of letters from lawyers in the mail within a couple of days.

Choose one, pay them, move on.

Cost me 400 bucks.

I got those 3 plus fictish tags and a taillight out. Was at the in forrest race for american wheeler. Worst part was they took the exwifes tags and made us wait 30 days to get new ones.... Cost me a little over $700 in fines and much more in the bitch fest i heard at home....
