I need a favor...

just an idea, have you looked for a preexisting coffee table you might could fit your "table-top" to?

Ok, here's what I was thinking, and still suggest, for that frame.

What is the distance shown in red on the right? I'm guessing maybe 3"? 4"?

Its about 2."

Get yourself some .250 angle steel, big enough to provide a ledge for the bottom edge to sit on, and cradle the sides as well, illustrated by deep greenish blue on left. Do this around all four sides, and it will provide axactly what you were asking about above. Where they meet at the corners, just a 45" so it meets up. Look at the back of a pictureframe, same idea.
then you can weld legs (1.5" .120 tube stock) either to the sides of thsi frame, or teh underside of the corners so it matches the profile.

Thats kinda the idea i am going with. I will create a ledge for the tv to rest on the frame (not the back metal I want that to hang freely). It will have support all the way around the edges (I will start with 4 corners first to see how sturdy that is). But your right on the money with that idea though ratlab.

Yeah, i searched craigslist and whatnot, everyone wanted $75 or more. Im not trying to invest in this, its just a cheap fun project. So far I have $25 in plexi, screws, wood and a blacklight. My roommate has a table in storage i think might be perfect, so if he gets his lazy ass up and gets it that would make me happy.

UPDATE: None So far ha ha...
I am gonna try and work on this this weekend as well as some other things. I will let yall know the outcome and get some better pics.
