I saw a lifted

Yea, someone wasting their money. I saw one once on a Ford Escape and thought WTF? Why give the govt any more than you have to?

An Escape really I thought weighted tag was if you towed over 10000 pounds & I'm pretty sure an escape can't even tough half of that

1st. SUVs are exempt from needing a weighted tag, no matter the weight, therefore the jestyness of this thread.
2nd. It doesn't necessarily have to do with what you tow, but rather the combined weight of the truck and anything it hauls/tows. If you have a 10,000lb tag, and your truck weighs 7,000lbs, the most you can tow is 3,000lbs.

Speaking of this, I got behind one of our company Suburbans the other day, and noticed it had a weighted tag, I need to let someone know about that.

ok never really towed much so i was unaware of the tag requirements

Escort needed weighted tag because
the combined weight of the escort + homies GF = <GVW

I wonder if these people were running a plate that was supposed to be on a different vehicle. I got behind a thugged up Caprice with permanent trailer plates a while back. I'm assuming it didn't take long for a cop to pull him over. :shaking:

lol, maybe it didnt run very well.

ive had vehicles that got towed so often i felt like they needed permanant trailer tags!

the state will take your $$$ regardless if the tag is needed or not...

I have a good friend that has a weighted tag on his Excursion. But, its personalized that he has had on an F350 for years until he sold it and got the Excursion. Rather than loose the personalized tag, he just kept the weighted tag in hopes of having it on a truck in the future

Excursion or Expedition today, brown, a lot of lift, smallish tires
With a weighted tag???
Did it have monster stickers and stuff on it? swamper sts's?

Yeah I remember when I was getting the tags for my 4runner they almost made me get a weighted tag. Not sure how you would classify a 4runner but it barely moves itself let alone a trailer. But I have heard that suv's dont need the weighted tags, well according to my hs shop teacher/drivers ed inst.

Okay, this topic comes up at least once a month. When we find the SUV law I think I'm gonna lobby the towing section mods to sticky the bitch..

Im thinking of buying a SUV, would anybody on here know if I would need a weighted tag?

Depends on the year of the 4Runner.
IIRC pre-90s were classified as "truck", 90+ as "SUV".

I thought about that bulb but my new SUV uses "dark suckers"...
Damn......
