IKEA - Anti Gun

Maybe some already know, but I didn't... my wife and I just got back from driving 60+ miles, wasting gasoline, and the better part of 2 hours just to find out IKEA is strictly ANTI-GUN. We would have bought some furniture from them. I'm PO'd about this right now, but I will get over it. In the future, I won't go near an IKEA again :flipoff:, and just wanted to inform anyone who doesn't already know about the sorry-assed place. Rant over... now in the cooling down mode. :shaking:

Probably a "Gun-free Zone" sign on the door. Because criminals follow laws and shit like that....that paper sign probably saves lives!

:uzi:probably the "robbers welcome no one has a gun sign "

When's the last time you've heard of an IKEA store being robbed? Has nothing to do with them allowing you to carry or not. It has to do with the fact that the place is near impossible to get in and out of quickly and efficiently, the lack of cash at one individual place (registers are spread out, when people buy large purchases it's mostly on credit card, there are two food stands that do most of their cash business and they are on separate floors, etc)

If you are going to rob a place, you would stick to the easy in, easy out mostly cash businesses that are already being hit. Robbing an IKEA would be similar to robbing a casino.

how did you find out? i feel there is a good story here.

Sorry 'bout that... yes, the sign was very nicely lettered across the glass at the entrance. Our decision to turn around and go back home was solely because of that sign. I don't have any problem obeying the law, but to my wife and I a no gun sign is also a no wallet sign. My only frustration was the time and money wasted by going there in the first place. I was not expecting a no gun sign.

Damn and I was gonna buy some Ikea shit. I should have known it was a bunch of democrats in there running the joint. Shit is too contemporary for republicans.

Actually IKEA is a Swedish company, and therefore would be more of a monarchy with a Prime Minister and cabinet. I'm sure the Riksdag could give a rat's patootie about our right wing or left wing ideologies.

I'm just in it for the meatballs.... and the Kortvarig. Loves me some Kortvarig (just some random name I picked out of the IKEA catalog).

Just out of curiosity, do you have other places you won't go because of this? I see these signs all the time.

Not really, I live in Cabarrus County just a couple miles from the Rowan County line. With Concord, Kannapolis and Salisbury being our closest cities we don't see much of the no guns allowed stuff. Being a non-drinker, avoiding restaurants where alcohol was served was never an issue. I don't care much for the chains anyway, and we have plenty of local (no alcohol) eating establishments where the food is far better anyway. The signs don't bother me at all... except when I get a surprise like I got this morning after purposely driving 30+ miles.

not to get this thread of topic but i thought that the new nc laws passed you could carry in restaurants( but not bars) that serve alcohol you just couldn't drink anything.

You can come to my shop though![/quote]

You are exactly right. I just don't care much about the ones that do serve alcohol. Logans or Johnny Carino's would be about the only exceptions.

I don't know many places you can go around Rowan with out no gun signs.

Like where?... name some places... I'm just curious.

Just so we're clear - are you mad that they have that policy, or that you wasted you time and gas?

If its the former - well honestly as a business they have every right to decide whatever policy they want, just like you have the right to not give them any money. We can debate all day (yeah it'll be short) whether its a good policy or not, but I fail to see a reason for it to make you angry.

Regarding wasted time/gas... how is that their fault? They didn't ask you to make a long trip to come, nor is it any big secret that Ikea is a no-gun zone.

You made that trip on your own accord. If you are going to stand by your convictions and limit your shopping habits accordingly... then its on you to be prepared to do so.

I applaud you for sticking with your convictions. Just not sure that and anger or frustration here is pointed in the right direction...

Don you have an accord?

Dude... surprised you can leave the house at all without running into a bunch of "No Guns" signs....

Actually IKEA is a Swedish company

IKEA is actually organized as a non-profit. Its purpose is to promote good furniture design innovations in architecture and design.

It's also wholly owned by a family. They're... a little bit rich.

Exactly what I'm saying. the big man in Sweden doesn't say let's put no gun signs at out us locations. Everything that happens in the us is surely governed by whoever is in charge this side of the pond. Probably a democrat.

I see a no guns sign, they see no guns on me. Whats the problem?

And all you guys who keep saying "teh democrats" need to replace that with "teh liberals". The democrats are a US political party, liberal is an ideology. There <used to be> democrats who still believed in guns and such.

I'm with the Rat guy. I applaud you for sticking to your convictions as well. Not many people take a stance and stick to it that way. But again, a simple phone call in advance would have saved you the trouble.

Personally, I don't know that brandishing a sidearm at IKEA would make me feel safer or not. Millions of people grace that store a day without so much as a hint of a problem. I don't know why carrying or not would make a difference. Myself, I see someone with a sidearm concealed poorly or open carry and it doesn't bother me. There are some people that freak at the sight of a bullet even without a gun present. Those people scare me more than pro-gun activists. Fear is our enemy - not guns, knives baseball bats, etc. Fear of the unknown causes people to look at items and attempt to pre-judge people's motives based on them.

Two people can observe someone open carrying and walking into a store and they may assume two different outcomes. The first may assume he is there to rob them since he's armed and obviously not afraid to show it. The second may assume he's there to protect himself and make his purchase and go on his merry way and on the off chance the store were to get robbed while he is in there could potentially assist in quelling the threat because he is armed. Two totally different outlooks on the same scenario. And that is NOT a far fetched assumption.
