I'm way more hardcore than all of you guys

- I have spent over $19,000(have documentation) in junk for .

your not in a bad situation. 19k on a buildup over 2 years isnt bad. look how much money people spend on building up a built jeep

i spend that every quarter on shop supplies, tools, inventory, etc

And we all gotta have some fun. I won't mention what 19,000 at 22 can do for your retirement.<snip>

Ok, I will!! Spend the next 2 years doing the same thing and put away $19k in a individual 401k (bit a hoops to jump thru but possible)

Large Cap stocks (avg 13.xx since 1929, we will assume 12%)

Age 50 = 400k
Age 60 = 1.25 million
Age 65 = 2.25 million
Age 70 = 3.90 million

This assumes for the next 2 years you duplicate what you just did but put aside 19k, 9500 a year

OR, for the next 4 years you do 1/2 of that and put away 5k per year

Age 50 = 385k
Age 60 = 1.19 million
Age 65 = 2.10 million
Age 70 = 3.71 million

One final thought, do this EVERY year until you are ready to retire, so 5k per year into an IRA

Age 60 = 3.2 million...(millionaire at age 50)

Start pulling out 250k per year (paying uncle Sam 1/2 of that) so net of 10,000 per month of cash and your IRA balance NEVER goes down, in fact at age 80 = 12 million

5,000 a year...
$100 a week

Ricky, seems to me your wheelin and dealin has financed your hobby. Not many of us can say that.

i can say that about alot of things i own,but my wife still doesnt believe that you can wheel and deal and get good stuff, she insist extra money is still changing hands,i give her x amount of money each week and then the rest is all mine, since i'm not to computer sharp i write down everything in a notebook and tuck it away beside the guns, she never looks there, she hates the guns with a passion,i've never thought about adding it up to see where i'm at now,i'll wait till it's actually able to wheel before i hurt my own feelings

DW = "Dear Wife" as in "Yes, Dear" and "No, Dear". Actually, you are not allowed to use "No, Dear." It's there, but you can never use it. You will learn.

THIS IS THE AMONG BEST ADVICE EVER POSTED ON NC4X4. You young'uns, listen up and listen hard. You can never go back and "catch up". As soon as you get a job, start packing it away.

You get in the habit now, even if its $50 a week, it's not that hard to do and keep up. You can actually get your bank (or investment guy) to draft out each week/month for you so you aren't tempted to let a month slip by.

Until you CRY cause that 100k dropped to like 80k,
AND you are still adding tons of money to it.
Stupid stock market.

But yea, make sure to at the very min, put what your employee matches in.
I try to do 10% then whatever employee matches, and wife does 15, then we put some in other funds.
But we're paranoid as crap about losing jobs. To many coworkers and friends got hosed in the dot com bubble.

DW=Damn Wife!

- I have spent over $19,000(have documentation) in junk for my Z71 Jeep and Z71 Truck over the last two years, while in college, without a job, was not givin $$ by my parents, and did not use my college loan $$
With that being said all of that money came from me buying and selling cars and or parting them out for a'll ya'll haters of when I had all the random junk. However in retrospect that $$ would have payed off just over half of my college loan, in hindsight kinda sucks I spent that much but I probably wouldn't do it any differently. Allthou towards the end I stopped making $$ and it all went to fixing my Z71 truck and my Z71 Jeep and now I have a total of like $200 I think :shaking:

Hmm, seems to me like 20% (or somewhere there abouts) of that $19,000 you made should have gone to Uncle Sam???

Sure hope the wrong person isn't reading this or you are SOL...

Separate accounts
high yield bonds
wheeling and dealin' for parts
work on my own junk
side jobs

is the only way for me!!!

every true wheeler knows:

Besttop top = $1000 ... DW thinks $200.00
New seats = $500.00 DW thinks $150.00
Paycheck = $1200.00 DW thinks $300.00

Oh and of course the good rolling chassis I bought was really $200.00 just ask the DW and that check I wrote out for $1700 was ummm I was paying him back for something at work ... yeah thats it.

"Lord, if I die, please don't let my wife sell my toys for what I told her I paid for them."
You dont have them willed out to your buds yet?

This all sounds good, I've had the time value of money crap stuffed down my throat for ages...and almost believed it. Then I started dumping money into that 401k at age 21 and have been faithfully spilling money into that pit for 6 years now. I guess by some standards I have a good nest egg started but in my feeble mind I still cannot see that crap netting out to much. I'll be 40-some-odd years older than I am now before I can touch a damn dime of it. The world will be a much different (and at the going rate, MUCH more expensive) place to live. I will need money earlier and more of it. I started doing non-retirement investing in November, wonderful timing I have lost a bunch of that and who knows if it will ever get back to where it was. Ah well.

And just for reference, I put more in than you are alluding to with your last comment. I just don't see it happening. If I stop putting in today, there won't be that much there at the end. I really just don't believe it. It seems that even in these few pretty good years of stock market rebound (03-07 ish) that most of the growth was fueled by my hard work and not by "gains" realized on the market.

I have a JOB a wife and a Kid. 2 Jeeps (one that runs with a broken axle) $0 budget. Still when 4wheelin last week end. Just not in my truck.

But I still have dreams of greatness in the Web wheeling world.

how is that for hard Core :flipoff2:

You guys are all crazy. Keeping track? Knowing the value of your "built" projects? I don't wanna know! If I don't know, how can she know? I can play dumb and be honest about how much money has REALLY changed hands on e-bay! Built not bought for me.

Holy old posts batman

Yea, but look at the wicked clairvoyance I had with my post.
"Until you CRY cause that 100k dropped to like 80k,

Course now that's more like that 100k dropped to $12.63
:(
Stupid stock market.
