Integrating shipping containers into a shop

I've thought about this for a while. I would love to figure out how to put trusses between 2 of these for a pole shed style building with dry storage on either side. Kinda like this, but with the trusses attached to the containers...

This I can understand, if u have the units already. Buying them seems cost prohibitive, unless there's a cheap source.

I think they make a good platform for underground storage. Imagine if u had a hillside on your property, dig it out and bury all but the entrance.

Or use them to create a "basement" under your shop. Would likely need a few feet of cover under the slab to reduce the weight loading on the box, though.

I have thought about doing one like this, except I would turn them around so the doors are on the backside of the shop and therefore not visible. Use the bottom ones for lockable storage for skid steer, excavator, tractor, truck, etc etc. My plan for one top one would be shelving for parts storage, heavy stuff I can sit in from outside with the skid steer, but I would have a catwalk between the two inside for access. The other upstairs unit would have the mill, lathe, drill press, CNC plasma table, and other stuff that doesn't get used often to keep it out of the way.

I would build as a 30x40 shop space (between the containers) and run a large I beam across in the center to use for lifting in the shop (engines, etc).

The other reason I have though about doing this is I can get lockable storage quick. I have means of sitting the containers in place without renting equipment so I don't have to sit them all at once either. The biggest issue is getting it engineered, I have talked with an engineer but he has not given me a price yet.

I personally would not have used floor space inside the shop, rather put them on the side or end, outside the shop w the roof extended over it.

You guys are missing the point on this one, and I am really disappointed... IT LOOKS COOL, that's why you do it :flipoff2:
Cool usually = wasted money.Ill stay uncool and keep my money.:D

Nothing useful to add, but inquiring minds are curious...where could you get 1-2 of them for a reasonable price delivered to Albemarle, NC?

Got a buddy in union with that exact setup.
He stores 2 classic vettes in them. With a dehumidifier. Says it's extra fire protection.

They're vettes, I thought fire improved them.

Shrug.

Btw GAP used them as both bridges and tunnels.

Thought I might pick up an idea from all the post, But I'm Still like Matt;> WHY?
I want one to store all my stuff/junk that I don't need to move, but don't want to sell...going from a 2,400 sq ft house w/ 1,000 sq ft of storage/work space in my shed & garage to a 1,200 sq ft apartment sucks! Right now everything is packed on & in my brother's, my grandpa's & my trailers...need to do something to free them up. I've thought of a storage unit, but I'm leaning towards a shipping container since I feel they're more secure and could be cheaper in the long run than monthly storage payments.

Installed a water treatment system in a group of 18-20 40'HC growing cannabis in California. The spacing sucked, inefficient utilization of the containers, no way to disinfect. Mostly it was part of their "story".

Looking at it. Are they going to use the containers as "office space" Keeping it like that under the large roof would look like they might be making them into an office type space that you can run AC or heat in.
