I'll preface for those that may not know....I'm a machinist and work depot level repair on military aircraft. The shop that I'm in gets to travel to fix stuff.

So, like two months ago, I went on a work trip to Honduras. We knocked out the job pretty quick and everyone was tickled. We came back home. Neither of us thought much more about it until today.

We were told to go up front to one of the GS15's (the HNICs) office along with our work leader and supervisor. I wasn't really sure what to prepare for...

Come to find out, the LtCol, MstSgt, and SgtMj of the 2nd MAW were there to thank us in person. Apparently it was a very high profile job and it went as high as the Pentagon. These three guys are over the entire east coast's fleet...no big deal, right?

We both got letters of appreciation from the 2nd MAW/HMH-464/SPMAGTF-SC and they tossed up a 250 dollar poker chip. We did save them a few million dollars, after all!

So yeah, that happened. Figured I'd share.

They're acronyms....the military loves them.

MAW- Marine Air Wing
HMH- Heavy Marine Helicopter
SPMAGTF-SC- Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force - Southern Command

A lot of high ranking HMFIC's both enlisted and officers, besides his boss who is a civilian contractor were very happy with their work. Haha.

What he said! Except we're not contractors, we're civil service.

HNIC? :D

Glad to hear you got recognition.

Hnic - head 'nobody' in charge. Paraphrased for internet's & sensitive ones. Gargoyle knows the actual "n" word lol
I used to work with a guy that said "MMFIC" Main Mother...... in Charge. I guess that's more PC.

Congrats. Little things like that make the work worth while some days. We've been doing that for the guys here at the mill for a while. They're working some shit hours and making some good things happen for us. We don't have to but handing out $50-$100 gift cards for a nice meal or a trip to Cabela's is cool in my book. I'm glad they do it.

Not sure I know how to get the video to just show up in here vs. the link, but this definitely reminded me of...

I'm crotchety, just not old yet :D

Around here, the big thing is commemorative coins. Apparently certain commanders and SES's over a certain level get them to hand out for special recognition. They have the insignia of the command and come in different colors and even shapes. Overt he years I've accumulated a handful... not sure what to do with them, they just sit in a drawer. For some folks it's a really big deal, to me, I'm just happy for the sentiment that led to the presentation.

A couple years ago I went to a demo thing at the Pentagon sponsored by DARPA with a coworker who was pretty young and new to this. A two-star came by our booth, and was really impressed with his presentation and the tech we were showing off. He slipped him a coin, but it was in the sly inconspicuous way they often do, where it was cupped in his hand when he gave him a handshake. Well he sort of stared right at his hand awkwardly confused during the transition, then promptly dropped the coin on the tile floor, making a nice loud sound that made everybody turn and look at him. Two-Star just grinned and said, "You might want to pick that up." to which my buddy just awkwardly scrambled and bent over to get it while everyone snickered at him.
I guess I should have warned him that might happen. But it still makes me laugh.

CK is wise beyond his years... Always been impressed with his knowledge and talent. Glad to see other recognize it too. Congrats my friend.

@RatLabGuy you could get something like this:

When I retire I’ll have to figure out what to do with mine. I have a few from over the years that are in a crown royal bag in my dresser drawer. I agree with you though that the memory of receiving them is the best part of having them though.

@Croatan_Kid congrats on the coin. They are always cool to receive especially from a higher echelon commander or CSM.

At least everybody I work for likes me, so I've got that going for me. That means when I decide to stop traveling, I should be able to move up if I really want to.

Not to mention, all of this looks really good on me during reviews, I've been doing this less than three years and I'm already traveling, have gotten two poker chips, a letter of appreciation, and I'm their F35 guy. I'm just trying to make it really hard for them to fire me :D
