If you'll notice anybody who's ever built a scout has half a dozen or more parts scout sitting there.it takes that many to get enuf good parts to put one together.

Oh I know that I really just want a decent body. I wasn't going to pay top dollar for it though

Had been rear ended. Was told floor plans were solid... could stick my finger threw them any where I wanted. Said motor ran but it was locked up.

Well, that sucks, Even a stuck IH motor can usually be brought back without a lot of effort, but if the body is shot, pass it up...

I'm really just wanting a good body and frame. I'm sure I'll catch hell from some hardcore scout guys but would like to make a cool weekend cruiser possibly a DD so it would get a modern motor and drive train. And yes it would probably be a 4.8/5.3 cause we have a couple laying around between my friends and me

Who cares...? Don't even let those thoughts cross your mind, it doesn't matter what other people think. You're starting with something barely salvageable, so the fact that you're returning it to the road in the first place should make the hardcore Scout guys happy.

But seriously, fuck the people who don't like something because it's not to their perceived level of purism.

If IH would have put as much quality in their body parts as they did their drivetrain parts there would be more of em around. They all rusted out on the same places.

LS is the only way to go IMO.

Eh, I wouldn't complain too much about you doing a drive line swap, But honestly, it's pretty esy to bring the existing powerplants to modern reliability levels using junk yard parts (Chevy DUI and Throttle body injection, Lots of good instructions for it on Binder Planet) But you'll get much better cold start behaviour and gas mileage with the modern drive line.. If you do end up doing an 80/800, don't discount a 4.3 swap, they are small trucks, not that heavy, and the Chevy 6 will still move it pretty good.

But v8 power....... I did alittle figuring on the one I looked at last night.. there is room for a ls and a 68mm turbo without cutting the inner fenders out lol. But that would just be a good way to end up dead

Yeah, but it'd be a lot of fun until you did!

Remove the heater box, water to air in its place. But I'm not gonna need a turbo lol

The simplicity of an air/air unit is always my first choice. You still need to add a radiator core and all the associated plumbing and reservoirs for an air/water unit, so it's not worth the cost/hassle/complexity/weight/reliability over an air/air unless you have no other choice.

But, doesn't matter if you're not going to strap a snail onto it.

Theres a dude in Knoxville TN that has/had a bunch of scouts and talked like he had a stash of parts. He had a nice restored 800.If you cant find anything local let me know and Ill try to find his card.I missed a 800 pick up about three years ago that still had the air force base name painted on the side, all original all the way down to the pto winch. It was tied up in a dirty estate settlement and wound up at the crusher.
A little late but here it is.
