Interstate 74 Questions

Every time I have ever gone to Myrtle Beach for the last 30 years, I get on Interstate 26 in Johnson City and run it all the way to Columbia to begin my trip East on 20/95 various assorted other roads to get me to Myrtle Beach travel park. I have debated going to Wytheville and coming down 77 and getting on 74 to run it South till it hooks into what ever road it is that goes towards Conway. Having never been that way I though I would ask since there has to be somebody here that travels that way on a regular basis. It will be my family and our fifth wheel tooling down the road. Google maps shows it about 20 miles difference than going 26 through Ashville. I am not worried about the distance or time, but everytime we go through Ashville / Hendersonville it seems like a parking lot on the interstate.

So, whats the facts? Road sucks? Run it? Staying home isn't an option, my darling loves the travel park.

Thanks

Nothing constructive to add, but I add 15 minutes & 20 miles just to get fuel, snacks & brisket from Buc-ee's in Florence.

I run 421 to 40 to 74 every day for work. There's road work between I40 and Union Cross Rd, but it doesn't seem to slow down much. Otherwise, that's the route I take to myrtle and it's pretty smooth sailing.

We stay right down the road at Apache when we go. From 74 we take 410 through Chadbourn which runs into 701, then that to 9 right outside Loris. 9 to 31, 31 to 22, and 22 dumps out on Kings Rd. Easy peasy Japanesey. Worst part IMO is 410 and 701 because they are 2 lane, but traffic usually moves pretty good.

For the sake of knowledge, if you run into any problems around the 410/701 hit me up. I live just a few minutes away from there.

Be prepared to be in a crowd of Ohio assholes that run that section of road like it owes them money doing their monthly myrtle beach run.

Apparently every household in Ohio must take a myrtle beach vacation at least twice a year and this is their chosen route

Counting the Ohio tags makes for an interesting road game (for the first 1/2 hour... Then it becomes astonishing)

Thank you.

It's a pretty easy run. Not much to look at east of Asheboro, though. Mind your speed through Richmond County (area between Rockingham and Laurel Hill) and you'll be fine.

Thank you. I don't like driving too fast pulling this camper, so speeding shouldn't be too bad.

I would like to stay at Apache, or any other campground really just to see what else is out there. My family has been going to MBTP since the early 90s when I was young. My wife's parents also always went there, so she has a lot of fond memories I guess. So, we always end up going back there since we got a camper of our own

We will count and report back.

I have nothing to add but I live about 3 miles south of I20 at exit 98. Camden, SC. Always willing to help out if the need arises. That goes for anyone passing through this area.

You NC Yankees stay out of SC. Only way you can come is if you take Myrtle Beach back with you. I keed, I keed, but seriously, Y’all can have Myrtle.
I’m really really glad that myrtlebeach exists.

It congregates all the people I would never want to vacation around in a centralized area easy for me to avoid.

Hey @Ron I was gonna offer you a free trip to Myrtle Beach with unlimited food and drink in a few weeks. What's stronger? Your anti-Myrtle or your inner-Israeli?
