Is a Man's word worth Anything anymore!?!

Don't count on anyone's word.Close family only. Most people are liars and their word isn't worth spit...I agree he's a jerk.

No one is trying to sound like a pro that says "cash talks"....most people who are saying that have been lied to over and over again about someone coming to buy something, "hold it for me", and they never show or show up weeks later bitching about it being sold out from under them. If you set a specific date and time and he said he'd hold it till then, then yeah, he's a dick. But if no specific date was set and agreed on , then tough shit.

I can see that piont of view. I took it as a literal, "I'm coming back to get the title and I'll be there at X time" and I based my opinion on that.

just to stir the pot a little for the "cash talks" guys. WHAT IF your bestest best friend in the world wanted a winch from you. He said I'll stop by sometime next week (no specifics) and pick it up. I show up and offer the same amount of money. who do you truthfully sell it to?

Truthfully I call my friend and say "are you serious about this, there's someone here ready to buy...shit or get off the pot. I sold a friend a part not long ago and he agreed he'd pay me the following Thursday. I had someone else trying to pay me on the spot for it and I turned down the money. That happened over two months ago, I haven't seen a dime from my friend for the part and he's installed the part and been riding. So what should I do now, sound like a dick and start harassing him for my money?....See why the term "cash talks" starts to ring true with some of us?

If we are good friends, sure I would hold it, pretty sure that is not the case here, but if we aint, 1st one with the money wins. I'm sure there is two sides to this story.

Also I would like everyone to address me as pro from this point on

I'd still give it to my buddy. I always sell stuff cheaper to my close friend than I would the general public.

Here's my $.02.

As already mentioned, he probably needed some quick cash. After a week you didn't go back to pick up the $300 winch. He had someone there to buy the ENTIRE Jeep. I bet they had cash money right then and there. Sucks that you didn't get it but I would have done the same thing if I was in his shoes. At least he called and told you it was no longer available.

I've sold a good bit of junk in my day and have had someone pissed at me for not "holding" it for them. However, I never agreed to hold anything for anyone. First come, first serve because I don't give a rats ass who buys my parts. As long as they're selling with no B/S drama I couldn't care less.

Just learn from this experience. An ATM is never too far away.

Cash in hand or at LEAST a deposit. Only way to do it or you will end up in the situation that BIGWOODY is in right now. There are only a handful of people who I will let take a part or something and pay me at a later date, usually because I will see or talk to them on a regular basis and have for a long time.

sure thing

There are exceptions depending on whether I know you or not. But if I don't know you, or you don't have a reputation on this board that speaks to your character, then I'm gonna want a deposit. I wouldn't have given you a week on a 1/4 priced winch to begin with. But most of us on here could call somebody and have something like that sold within 5 minutes anyway.

I've had stuff sold out from under me too, because I didnt leave them a deposit, I didn't worry about it. I've gotten good deals and given good deals, but when one is missed i just wait on the next one.

I have learned to go about things differently, and will no longer sell things to most friends without cash upfront. I have a good friend, who is great when it comes to everything except money, he owed me 80 bucks for 6 months, finally paid it back. List goes on, I learned to do things this way, feel free to copy my plan.

Step 1. When you decide your going to sell something, mention it to friends prior to posting it for sale anywhere, give a few days to get the money together if they are interested.

Step 2. After said amount of days pass, post it on the boards and at this point the friends are lumped in with the same as everyone else, cash talks.

Step 3. Count your money and enjoy the empty space in the garage that will soon be filled with more things you didn't need.

Alright I'm gonna hi-jack this thread alittle.I had a 4runner on CL and a dude came to look at it.We worked out a deal and he we wanted to come on Fri(this was on Mon) and pay me 1/2,let me keep the title/truck until the next fri when he would pay the other 1/2.That 2nd Fri was good Fri,the weekend of the April fools ride at Harlan.Long story short he came the Mon after Harlan and gave me $100 on it.He came back a week or two later wanting my phone # again because he lost it,but didnt pay any additional $$$$ on the truck.Another week goes by and he leaves a buisness card on the door sayin "sorry about Fri I'll come back tommorow",I havent saw him since.
I'm ready to part it out and I could call him but I dont feel it's my place. So call him or not??? I'm sure he'll have some good excuse and will come by on Fri.The bad part is he owns a insulation and glass buisness in town and should know how buisness works.:shaking:

Call him, tell him you will give him till the end of the following day to come and pay the truck in full and take it away, or he will lose his deposit. Its a dick move, but it forces him to make up his mind.
