Is everyone dead?

I open and remodel True Value Hardware stores and it has been really busy until this month . All of the work that was lined up for the 4th quarter went on hold . Rather than sit three months I am going out of the country til January , hopefully by then everything will kick back in that was put on hold .

i wish i didnt have any work. just finishing up a 24" sewer line replacement. while vacuum testing a manhole today i got a facefull of sewage splashed in my face. delicious.

The only friends I have who are doing pretty well all own bars. Guess peeps are drowning their sorrows.
I can vouch for that. I`ve been slammed installing draft beer systems and have several coming up.

The shop has been real slow lately and it looks like some of the work I had lined up freshing up racecars in the off season is not going to be there like I planned.

I'm in heavy industrial and pharmaceutical construction and we are staying fairly steady. This last quarter tends to pick up a bit as companies try to spend up their surpluss maint. budget before the new year, so we are staying steady. Seems as we are turning more work away than we are bidding on.

We also have a huge crane fleet which seems to be staying busy. Surprisingly because the modular housing market is basically down to zero, so we have zero crane business from that.

Odd...

Our dealership had a fire 2 weeks ago. $750,000 damages plud totalled 6 Mercedes.

Aside from that, we've been really busy the last 2-3 months. I am averaging 40-50 hrs a week in a 30-35 hour week.

I am doing a lot of warranty repairs in drivetrain. Not a lot of customer pay, but when your tranny or engine goes, y agotta fix it. Then I come in...

Its always slow before an election... the crappy credit crisis scares everyone and locks up any extra money people would get from credit

Not me, almost over night we became the only Canon(liscensed) Copier service center in winston. Im 2-3 days behind in service calls, ive caught up from being a week behind!
our competitors have been bought out recently by the manufacturers, so the doors are wide open for us to make a bnch of money in the coming quarters.

I hear ya! I'm hopping here with Xerox & HP repairs. Not many people seriously want new stuff so they're running what they've got into the ground. Just enough work to keep me busy, but not enough to cause a backlog. Glad IKON works on the Canon stuff (I don't touch 'em). I had to send a guy your way about a week or so ago.

so WTF are you doing on here all the time? :flipoff2:

I'm blessed with plenty of work in the hardwood business right now. I have 2 carpet stores and my own work to take care of. Luckily, it takes a lot of $$ and skill to sand/finish hardwood floors so not just anybody is doing it. My equipment is paid for so no bills other than expenses and labor.

Truck sales are down at Volvo, but thanks to the 2010 EPA regulations I am stilling working OT designing the new stuff.
My girlfriend is busy as heck. There is a shortage of people in her field. She leaves for work an hour before me and gets home after me most days.

slacker...I was so busy today, I didnt even check the internet all day, that's gotta be a record. This downturn sucks, but I don't see the fed letting up on these emissions regs, good for us

The commercial/industrial power gen business is wide ass open.
Sept. was my 2nd best month on record.

My home tech business (personal)is pretty damn slow.... though honestly I havent been able to dedicate nearly as much time due to my day job..

Parts buisness is about the same as it always is,and things are pretty good at the shop, were bending tube of some sort about everyday

I am a vendor (or sub contractor, I guess) for about 16 dealerships in the RTP area.

Nearly all of them (talking service depts. here) are dead, and have been dead for a long time now.
Only one that is really rocking is the Honda shop.

Go through a Ford, Chevy, Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep store, and the mechanics are mostly standing around.

Luckily for me, the rain helps my business, so I'm fairly busy. (I fix their water leaks, wind noise, sunroofs)
Even though I'm still not as busy as before the drought.

We sell construction equipment. The service, parts, and rental side of the business is slightly off, but not bad. The sales on the other hand is pretty dern slow. Several of our manufactures have come out with very good finance deals for the last quarter trying to stimulate some business, and so far it seems to be getting peoples attention, so maybe the sales side will pick up a little.

Strange thing is, in august the parts department had its biggest month ever in 10 years of business, yet september was back down to just "ok." We will have a few busy days, then be slow for a few....just hard to figure out the pattern.

Our bumper business is booming right now. Working with a couple of major distributors that have over 11,000 retail outlets. That and the removal of Roadarmor from all 4wpw has been huge for us.......

.

I noticed that the Honda dealership is the only one really turning any work around here also

Haha, ever tried fitting a days worth of work into a landrover? gotta come back to the shop to refil on parts and supplies (and fuel ). That and winston is small enough i can get back tot he shop (where the computer is) for lunch. Not everyday is spent in the field either, ive got tons of shopwork to keep up with too. leaves me plenty of time keep up with the goins on around here :flipoff2:

Ikon was who got bought out. Canon dropped 'em. they are now owned by Ricoh. Which leaves us, EBM as the only Canon dealer in winston. :D well, authorized dealer.

Who do ya work for?
