If this is the wrong place for this please tell me.
Sunday morning exploring in Durham ended up stuck.
AAA is no good... this is my first time in this situation. Can anyone help me figure out how to deal? No winch on my Jeep
Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks

Call Durham County Sheriffs Dept, they have a service that provides extraction services, there is a small fee involved.

Yup, newbie... mistakes = experience = wisdom

Thanks guys, i agree on the winch, I'll start looking right away.
This was impromptu but will look to join somewhere to learn to avoid these situations.
voodoo, I'm skeptical... were you serious or bustin my chops? I might be on a municipal water line, but no signs posted, so?

This site and its members advocate responsible wheeling.

Ignorance is not an excuse. It's pretty simple. If you don't OWN it, or have permission to be there, you are trespassing.

Do you have your house/property posted ?

No he is serious. If you are out wheeling on a municipal water line I am sure the the local police dept or sheriffs dept would love to come help you. I am willing to bet they will be so impressed that they ask for your autograph...:shaking:

Thanks for the resource

Like I said, learning from mistakes. Everybody starts out a newbie. Thanks all for the lead ins to getting into this the right way. I do believe in the principles.

Right now I gotta go and figure out how to get my Jeep back

There is a good chance that it has already been moved for you, in part or in whole, finding it could be an issue though.....

trespassing ticket $1500
Tow bill $300
Another bad mark on the fourwheeling community.......priceless.

thanks bud.

sell your jeep and buy a honda.

In all seriousness get your truck out of whereever you have it. Apoligize to the Offroading gods and take the abuse for screwing up. learn from folks on here along with other folks where the legal places ar to go and go there. Everyone makes mistakes the key is to learn from them and do the right thing next time. Still waiting for the pics though.

was yours the jeep stuck off i-40 by southpoint mall? i saw that this afternoon when i was on my way home from raleigh.

yeah so let me get this strait
no winch?
no tow strap?
no hilift ?
no other 4x4 vehical?
on private/state land ?
what were you thinking its just a jk its not a M1a1 :shaking:

but atleast you had the balls to post up and get shamed/flamed lol

I know everyone is having fun bashing the guy for doing something stupid, and its obvious he deserves a lot of it. But I can highly doubt there is anyone on here that has never made a stupid decision/mistake 4 wheeling related or otherwise in their life. So you can go on flaming if you so choose, or we can work on helping get the guys Jeep out and set a good example for him to fallow/get on the right track.

He isn't that much different than the guys in 2 Jeeps that I came across at Uwharrie. A tire had came off the rim, and neither of them had a spare, hi-lift, or anything. But we helped them out, got the tire's bead set on the rim and got them going down off Kodak Rock. Wheeling un-prepared is just as dumb at Uwharrie as it is on private/govt land, but that wouldn't stop your from helping the guy out right?

There has to be someone that isn't 3 hours + away out in that area that can help him get his jeep back.

(And to be honest, I would put running a modified truck with 35" or bigger boggers playing on Kodak Rock meaning you know better than to be wheeling without a spare tire, highlift etc, as being dumber/more irresponsible than some guy that is new/doesn't really know what he is doing getting stuck on private property.)

You are going to have a hard time finding someone to help you because we are most certainly not willing to get a ticket, etc. Anyone that goes on that same property to "rescue you" is just a likely to get a ticket when the Sheriffs see the two of you.

Depending on how deep you are in the woods a tow truck is your best bet and even they are likely to have to call the law to get permission for the extraction. (Which does mean you may be getting a ticket out of this...depending on the officer)

If you are really deep / they may have to send in a backhoe, etc.

I suspect this will cost you in excess of $1000 and I am being very serious.

Not flaming you at all, I will be honest and admit I have been off-road in a construction site years ago. Got lucky and was able to get back out on my own. (I broke a header / scared the fool out of me...)

So good luck...do let us know how it turns out and do take pictures!

Here we go, I am about to state a FACT that is going to cause a major uproar. :shaking: I have no idea why I'm about to do this but it needs to be stated since it has never been mentioned in my couple of years on this site. I wheeled many power lines when I first moved here. Mostly by mountain bike but entirely with an "assumption" that they were privately owned by the power company and perfectly legal only for the fact that most are NOT posted! I didn't go on any land that WAS posted for I encountered many that were gated, fenced and posted to death. But I'm currently a land owner under a power line and I understand how I wouldn't want some gang of 4 wheelers rampaging through myself so my thoughts have changed even before buying easemented land.
People, if you read your NC trespassing laws you'll see that it is required to be posted on every corner and every so many feet to uphold in court. Even supposed to be like a 3' x 4' sign but that's kinda relic.
I know now that easements are privately owned by individuals. And I don't trespass on any land posted or not unless I have permission now as the mature grown up way. And I am no way saying it's legal. But if it's not posted, it's definately VERY fightable in court! But I wouldn't say one word to any policeman or land owner without a lawyer present and snapping pictures.:huggy:

PM if you still need some help.

Like many others on this board, I started out by hitting the powerline trails in my early days. Was it OK? Prob. not. Out of the many, many times I've been caught, was I ever given a ticket? No. But, I did mark that place as somewhere not to go in the future. If its not posted, all anyone can really do is ask you to leave. If you refuse, then you can get a trespass ticket or even locked up.

My point is, if someone is close by, there is no reason why someone couldn't help this guy out. You may be pushing your luck, but most people (officers/landowners) are reasonable and can acknowledge that you are there to help out, if done in a responsible manner.

Someone help the guy out and teach him, don't leave him out to dry and bash the crap out of him. Not everyone knows everything from the start, so teach him.

ok, flame on. :)
