Is this best forum for How to get a Tow?

Here we go, I am about to state a FACT that is going to cause a major uproar. :shaking: I have no idea why I'm about to do this but it needs to be stated since it has never been mentioned in my couple of years on this site. I wheeled many power lines when I first moved here. Mostly by mountain bike but entirely with an "assumption" that they were privately owned by the power company and perfectly legal only for the fact that most are NOT posted! I didn't go on any land that WAS posted for I encountered many that were gated, fenced and posted to death. But I'm currently a land owner under a power line and I understand how I wouldn't want some gang of 4 wheelers rampaging through myself so my thoughts have changed even before buying easemented land.
People, if you read your NC trespassing laws you'll see that it is required to be posted on every corner and every so many feet to uphold in court. Even supposed to be like a 3' x 4' sign but that's kinda relic.
I know now that easements are privately owned by individuals. And I don't trespass on any land posted or not unless I have permission now as the mature grown up way. And I am no way saying it's legal. But if it's not posted, it's definately VERY fightable in court! But I wouldn't say one word to any policeman or land owner without a lawyer present and snapping pictures.:huggy:
PM if you still need some help.

Yeah, but the lawyer will cost as much as just paying the fine... either way you're out a thousand bucks. :(

To the OP...who IS the landowner? If it's still stuck, and you can secure permission, you'll likely get some help here. Otherwise, I sure ain't touching it.

RAM-JK08 where is Jeep located?
I am willing to help you get out.. but there will be rules.. as in you need to give me exact address so I can contact the land owner and let them know I am going onto there property to extract you so that way I do not get a ticket or shot at, etc..

PM me and we can work it out..

You guys are freakin' amazing. Sure, give the kid a rash of shit. But don't even pretend like 95% of us didn't start out the same way.

And come on.. help the kid out.. here's what ya need:

1: Recovery rig with some balls
2: long snatch strap
3: video camera
4: somewhere to host the video of ripping the bumper clean off.. :)

Recovery is fun!

ok you have people willing to help now.... but you haven't told us where it is or how stuck it is. Is it in mud? have a flat? broken? etc

I'll put this out there...
If I were in te harea, I would help you out. I'd require some kind of evidence that you'd contacted the landowner or popo and the yaknowledged somebody else was coming to extract - solely for the sake of covering my own ass. But, I'd do it. Unf the 7hr drive isn't worthwhile.

Who knows if this is the case for the OP, but often people don't liek to post up the location in open public access like this, 2 reasons.
1 - evidence of their tresspassing coudl be used later for lawsuit, fines etc, and
2 - Unf there are unscrupulous folks who would read the page, get the locale.. .and go go "extract" the vehicle on their own, never to be seen by the owner again. E.g. "I know where there's a free Jeep in the woods"...

i lost a vehicle that way.

BTDT

I'm somewhat surprised at all those riding their high horses on this subject. If I had a decent offroad vehicle I'd try to help. I was once a clueless noob and someone had to come rescue me. I still feel I owe them bigtime.

Basic rules :

1) Don't wheel alone
2) Don't go wheeling at any location where you don't know the owner of the property.

It's awful tempting to break either or both of the above rules because there's not much local wheeling and sometimes you feel that you need a little mud on the tires. Heed Nancy Reagan, "Just say No!"

if its where im thinkin its near southpoint close enough to the highway atleast there was a jeep there that i saw from 40. seemed to be a beige color or something like that but looked like it was in the mud.

Rich...did you ever get any pics of the actual recovery? Now that was a pain in the butt.

No... :( I think we were all too busy recovering..

Besides, pictures wouldn't have shown you winching yourself forward out of a 36" hole while the tires were turning in reverse!

I just sold my rig and don't have a new one yet or I'd give you a hand for sure. Definitely some tough ribbing going on here and it sounds pretty boneheaded but sometimes the best way to learn is by making mistakes. Let us know how it goes.

wow....just wow.....
i cant belive the lot of you. if i started typing all the people that went wheeling with me at kemp road, ligon mill, regency park, slater rd and many other illegal trails back in the day, a lot of you would shut up.

many of us started out wheeling power lines and illegal trails when we didnt know any better. we grew up and learned there are better ways to go wheel. now when a new wheeler is stuck on some supposedly illegal land, every one pretends like they never did anything like it. to the OP, PM me and ill come pull you out. you guys are total jackasses. give the guy a break and maybe he will learn.

....I dont think the kid is coming back to this board

Place is starting to be too much like pirate.. If I was up there I'd help ya out

If I was anywere near Raleigh I would come and get you out. Whatever happened to helping people out of bad situations, knowing all of us have been there! I have went and pulled people out that I did not even really like, and no I am not just one of those nice guys. It's just the principle of the thing. If I was you I would remember who helps you out and the one's that don't, cause anyone who wheels at all will need somekind of help out of A situation sometime.

no one has said they wouldnt help. in fact several have said they would....with stipulations of course.

and wheeling illegally 10 years ago doesnt have the same effect as it does today. just like 10 years ago, you could have a shotgun in the rear window of your truck on school campus. (im not saying that the illegal wheeling 10 years ago was okay)

Well, where I am from, I was getting people off farmland were there might be and random mudhole and such, I will admit I don't know the rules on wheeling in Raleigh. But no matter where you are from helping someone out should be the same, go in late at night or something.

Okay fellas, he is out.

First, this aint a kid. He is a very smart, personable ,and nice OLDER fella.

He has learned his lesson and looks forward to doing more legal wheeling in the future. A NOOB is a Noob at any age. Like Metty said, we all did it at some point, only Ricky Bobby posts up and tells the world.

He is in the process of outfitting his Jeep more for trail riding right now and I look forward to seeing him on the trails of URE later this year.

I sure some people will disagree, but wheeling is like skateboarding, some of the funnest or challenging obstacles are out there but illigal to play on.

I agree with mahaffey. I started wheeling just like most everyone else here...illegal trails, peoples land at 2 a.m., powerline trails, city and county. If not for these places, I would have never been into wheeling. I also agree that everything now has changed. Laws are more strict and people are more protective of what they have...However, I have had many people pulling me out at 2 or 3 in the morning with all the lights off working as fast as possible, and tractors bouncing 2 and 3 feet in the air pulling my big ass Isuzu trooper out of mudholes when I was 17...The fear of $1000 dollar tickets wouldnt have kept me from doing this..Hell, I have been shot at while wheeling...These make the best drinking stories!!! Glad the guy got out safely!
