Is your rig unbreakable ?

Trebissky,

This thread has been split up (leaving a post or two behind) moved into a different forum and retitled. Thus, taking it a bit out of context, and making it a little harder to follow right at the beginning.
That may be why it's not making all that much sense why we are arguing. ;)

pully for the power steering pump is kinda jacked up and the rear upper link is geting molested by the rotor. but i didnt really break anything. you?

yeah i saw that rotor/upper link issue you were having.

not really, managed to deform/crack a spring hanger on the front but didn't "break" it, i'm gonna strip the front down and install the BTF hanger/bumper thats at the house. been meaning to, just like the hydro mount,, but i'm a lazy ass.

My turn

First....I will be the first to admit that i will break......along with everyone else. It's part of the sport. But i will also be the first person to help anybody else or move out of the way. I have hung my jeep off the side of a mountain to let people pass. I'm sorry that i don't have rockwells, 44's and a canoe. And i'm sorry that you get so bent out of shape over something like this. I will be sure to stay out of your way.

Who said they weren't going to help anyone?

:wtf:
How in the fawk did so many people get confused into thinking that this is about my Jeep? If I was still wheeling my old CJ-5 what would this be about? Just the canoe I guess :flipoff2:

You just don't get it.
(disclaimer: I know I went off way too hard on you when I posted last night. I do appoligize. I was letting loose with memories of all the different days I have sat on a trail, because of a group in front of us, that was clueless. I'm sorry.)
But please, if you know that the axles can't take the tire size, downsize the tires. It's not about staying out of my way. It's about being courtious to all wheelers on the trail, by using your knowledge and abilitys to make good choices. If you know it's gonna brake, do something about it before you leave for the trail.

I can see both sides of the story, but Aaron is correct in that, if you know the tires are too big for the axle, trade them for something smaller. I run 35's on a Dana 30. Are they too big, maybe. Am I easy on the skinny pedal, Yes. Do I have a spare set of shafts in the back of the Commando, Yes.
The Dodge will probably be fine at URE, and as long as you know your weak points and drive with that knowledge, all should be well.

I have experienced the same thing Aaron is talking about on the trail. There are times when you cannot do anything about the breakage that occurs, but to go out with the attitude of, "I know it will break, but I am tired of waiting to wheel" is about the same as leaving home and driving into rush hour traffic with 4 bald tires, weak brakes, and iffy steering. It is not IF something is going to happen, it is WHEN.
It is a matter of two different styles of wheeling setup. One trys to build something that is pretty impervious to breakage and the other just wants to get on the trail. We are both after the same goal, just 2 very different ways of getting there. I am somewhere in the middle. I have built mine pretty well, and if it breaks, I know how to fix it.

Of, and Aaron, you break parts, you hit the brakes to stop. :flipoff2:

And miss out on all this "fun" without a comment?...NADA! :D

While Aarons plan was good, his execution sucks! I have to agree with the point he's attempting to make, I've seen more than my share of abortions blocking the trail (haven't we all?)... without tools... without parts... without a clue *HOW* to fix it even if there'd been tools & spares... without anything really, but a rig that was just waiting for the moment to lay down in grand splendor and block 45 other rigs that didn't try to lock a D35 & run 36"s or the proverbial 8" lift blocks or the FS rig running 18" of lift to clear 35"s w/o cutting the fenders... AND that everyone breaks at some point (usually after making a statement like "I *never*__________ " ).... sometimes it's the steaming fresh pile that should have never left home, sometimes it's the $75k hi-zoot custom buggy.

Kudos to everyone that mentioned helping those with broken rigs (despite the inconvenience)... *THAT'S* truely "Jeep Karma" (works the same for lesser makes/models, just at a much lower interest rate! )

Hell, at least it didn't errupt into badmouthing about ducktape on leafsprings, no tow points, Northern Tool winches, beer kousy cage padding, or "Hey, nice scout/bronco"... cause somebody would be inline for the "a$$whippin$upremo"! :flipoff2:

I'd have to call it a good day! :smokin:

Does anybody else here wander why these little pissing contests manage to last longer than any tech discussion?
Just a thought

All I know is that I'm running 52" mich's on 10 bolts and I've never broke any drivetrain stuff at UNF. Also if I do break you'll just have to wait behind me until my 2500lb milemarker winch pulls me out of the way. :driver:

BTW. Why do most people wait until december to do any christmas shopping when you have 12 months notice?

Or pay your utillity bills in the last 10 days of the due date? Why not just send them a guestimate of what you think you'll owe them every 7 days?

EGZAKARY!!! I know a dipshit that has been running Duct Taped Leaf springs for 2 years now.... you'd think the idiot would hav ehad time to swap in one of the other 18 leaf packs he has laying around his garage in that time...... :flipoff2:

Hat's off for trying the Michelin's on a 10 bolt - I admire you.

It's not about the free leaf springs...it's about the $18.00 of bushings he'd have to pay $$$$$$ for... :D

So, ummm.... what's wrong with Northern's winches? :D

Northern's winches are the Ramsey winches that failed the line speed test...And Ramseys are slow enough as it is...

ramsey's are slower when unloaded, under a load, they are neck and neck with warns. i run a warn now, have had both, don't really care one way or the other.

just hate the dipshit comments of how slow ramseys are, do some research.

if you are refering to an rep8000, that was a northern tool product made by ramsey and is not indicative of the rest of ramsey's products. it has been phased out and upgraded to a series wound rep8500 now.
