back story:
Alright so after showing off at URE in late 2010 the Jeep became a lifeless pig. What happened was at the top of daniel I started crawling over all the rocks people show off on and found a rock that cut my rear yoke enough that is caused the driveshaft to fall out (only thought the strap to the ujoint broke).

Replaced Ujoint and strap and left the outpost and thats when I found out what really happened. DS came loose and I immediately stopped and remove it which is when I realized the yoke was broken as well.

Got home, replaced yoke, replaced ujoint. Also noticed one of the TRE was bent to shit so I replaced both just recently as well as the unit bearings.

0-20 no issues at all, any faster under acceleration and I've got vertical vibrations bad enough to shake the stereo loose. as soon as you get off the gas and just roll (no matter how fast) there or no vibrations at all. Touch gas and vibes are back.

Not Deathwobble

sounds like you have a bad trans mount or motor mount...

bend the mainshaft in the t-case? Watch the yoke spin without the driveshaft in and see if it appears to be spinning true
So I think you're right. Took a video of it spinning and you can see the rotation turn more in an oval.

Switched out wheels and tires to make sure the vibes weren't from trashed out 35s with a half gallon of slime in each tire :alien: but of course the vibes continued...thats when I took off the DS and checked the yoke movement.

Yep, you have found the problem. I don't understand why it doesn't shake in neutral.

Yeah ya got me...I figured that while rolling the shaft is still rotating, you should get shake...I hope this is the problem.

You can fix that without pullin tcase this same thing happen to me with my 242 in my zj i broke strap to ujoint on highway then vibs started i thought it was pinion so replaced rear d35 and kept vib so checked tcase and looked just like the video you shot! i replaced it in driveway in about two hours hope that is only problem with it!

i've heard of output shafts bending on 231's with hack and taps. and by heard i mean read on other forums

Yeah I agree with that, but this was an HD output shaft from Tom Wood. I expected it to hold up to some beatings, granted it was a hell of a beating.

Great, thats exactly what I want to hear man. Thanks for the post

I called Tom Wood and spoke with Josh and it turns out that I didn't buy the HD shaft, but had them setup a stock strength one for me. Bahhh the things you do when you're broke and still want toys. Anyway, he was extremely helpful and told me if I could source another shaft and send it in, he'd take care of it for me no charge.

Amazing customer service! Weather is crap right now, but I'll probably pull the xfer case tomorrow and take a look at whats going on.

...yeah they may make an HD, but that is to handle higher drive line torque, not landing on them, forcing them in odd directions when joints break, etc. Just so happens that when you get stronger parts the ability to resist those sorts of damage is a little better.

I'd get rid of any straps you have in the drive line, even if that means replacing the yokes. U-bolts are the way to go unless you switch to flanges.
