I caught this info today- Jeep’s future over the five-year period starting 2014:

2014: New Renegade subcompact launched.

2015: Grand Cherokee to receive major update.

2016: Patriot and Compass to be replaced by new compact crossover. Cherokee small SUV to receive major update.

2017: Renegade to receive major update and new versions of the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee to be launched.

2018: New Grand Wagoneer to be launched.

Few details about the new models were specified but the Grand Wagoneer was confirmed to feature third-row seating- new Wrangler will likely be lighter than the current model, come with independent suspension, and offer more engine options.

Jeep died a long time ago... all we have are the memories... and spare parts in the yard

That renegade looks like a kia soul.

Why are yall hatin on the IFS? Shannon Campbell runs IFS and IRS.

Sometimes I wonder if Jeep would have been better off being bought out by GM years ago. Late 80s the cursed 2.8 got shoved under the hood and nearly ruined it though. A modern day Jeep that was GM based I could see being like a trailblazer almost. Which I might be OK with as long as they threw the 5.3 or 6.0 in it. I don't think its so much the Chrysler corp purposely ruining the Jeep as it is them suiting the demands of the common folk wanting a tame jeep to drive to the beach in on the weekend not caring about any 4x4 capabilities.

No, it's CAFE standards. You can't have a line-up that consists of only the Wrangler, the Cherokee, and the Grand Cherokee, because you'll never make the brand-wide minimum fuel efficiency standards. So you've got to build a bunch of cars and slap Jeep labels on them.

Well, they could... they would just need to send the EPA a bunch of hush money.

Just Kidding.

Im digging the renegade as a good grocery getter. We all have to accept that Jeep and Fiat do not mix well...at least not for us.
Now the Grand Wagoneer could be a great success if its a big hunkin suburban like SUV with a hemi option and diesel....think a bigger commander.

Yep, this is just like 1986 when the Tacoma/minitruck died.

I think if Jeep would ever think of the end-game of the buyer, they would start building them to be rated to at least 3/4 ton. Do that and you don't have to worry as much about CAFE standards and you can build them with equipment that the off-road enthusiast would eventually swap in anyway.

I believe the requirements go up to somewhere around 8500 GVW. I want nothing to do with a Wrangler that big.

As much as the enthusiasts will be displeased, the general public, who doesn't even know how to put their vehicles in 4wd, will eat it up. A better riding, better gas mileage wrangler = a better selling wrangler. Chrysler, well now Fiat is going to do what makes them the most money.

I personally think the Wrangler died when the 4.0 was phased out. Granted the JK's do very well in mostly stock form, but they're also great at hauling the kids to soccer practice lol.

My $.02

I'm not sure that ifs is a bad thing. If anything it will boost the aftermarket to make new ifs parts and of course sas kits. Hell Toyota guys have been doing this for the last 28 years. I bet the go fast desert guys will eat it up if they have a good power plant in the new wrangler as well.

this. We can bitch and moan about Fiat destroying Jeep but it's the regulations that are forcing their hand.
