Jeep releases 5 year plan: Wrangler with IFS and new Grand Wagoneer

I'm not sure that ifs is a bad thing. If anything it will boost the aftermarket to make new ifs parts and of course sas kits. Hell Toyota guys have been doing this for the last 28 years. I bet the go fast desert guys will eat it up if they have a good power plant in the new wrangler as well.

You mean the oh-so-wide range of options for aftermarket for IFS parts?

I'm pretty sure that's a two step process. Step 1: spacers. step 2: buy a solid axle.

There is a growing market for IFS parts.
Most Toyota guys that stick with IFS either go with lift springs or adjustable coilovers now. There is also a few long travel kits out there IF you have the $$$, but that doesn't help too much with the wheeling around here.
Hell you can even buy cromo cv's now for tacomas and 4runners.

Well for the pre 95 guys your sol. You options are either blaze land or total caos. For the the 1st gen Tacoma's and 3rd gen 4Runner's it's pretty good then everything after that has a lot more.

People who say jeep died in 1976....or that the jk is a minivan...have you even wheeled/driven one? Yeah a cj looks and sounds cool but it is an under built pos in reality. As far as 4.0 vs the newer offerings the 4.0 loses hands down. I had a 99 tj 4.0 5 speed with 3:73s and 35s and it was gutless. It also got 12-14mpg. My 2011 3.8 6 speed jk with 373 and 35s gets far better mileage 14-19 and has more usable power to boot. It will also stomp it's ass on the trail (as well as my fj40 locked on 35s) and do 80mph all day on the interstate very comfortably and with room for all my crap.

Speculation.....we go through this crap every couple years or so.

This might be the only time I've ever heard someone call the 3.8 powerful. From an engineering standpoint, your comparison isn't equal. Your TJ had upsized tires ~21% over the intended design, where as the JK was only ~9% over design intent.

I wouldn't call it powerful but I would say it is sufficient. That's the problem with the "engineering standpoint" it usually only works on paper. In the real world they are almost identically equipped jeeps, and one has more power, gets better mileage, and moves around easier. After having a 2f in a Landcruiser the 4.0 is a gutless dog with bigger tires IMO. The 2f had way more bottom end grunt and the 3.8 provides more power while being more efficient.

Either way there is no direct reference from Chrysler verifying ifs on their 5 year plan. The title is misleading...the op must work in the media....

It's not hard to find...... Almost Jeep enthusiast forum and magazine is talking about it. Im not sure its been confirmed though..... http://bit.ly/RCEKAt

If you look the majority of the articles are from October 2013. Long before the "5 year plan.

Dude..... For cereal. Sounds like conspiracy theory and propaganda being spread by the OP.

In all honesty, I think the solid axle is safe. But unit body and the loss of the folding windshield are strong possibilities.

I'm going to keep stirring shit, though.
