A farmer that lives near a co-worker of mine has an 85 Grand Wagoneer for sale. I am thinking they switched from passenger side drop to driver side drop around 1980, but don't know enough about Waggies. Can somebody clue me in?

Thanks,
DK

Correct.

That Waggy should be driverside drop.

Now here is the catch on that vintage waggy.
Somewhere around 83-85 depending on what T/C it has -
It MIGHT have a disconnect in the front diff.
It will be obvious. Big hunk-o-crap hanging off the cover.

Also the rear is a crap shoot. Probably a HD AMC20 but it COULD BE a centred D44 also.

1979 and earlier have the passenger side drop, 1980 and later have driver's side drop. This is also when the automatics switched from the GM Th400 to the TF 727. From '74 to '91 all the front axles are Dana 44

I'm currently looking for a decent GW to make a mild trail rig out of...keep me in mind of you find one that runs and looks 1/2 way decent

BTW I know of a 84 with driver side front axle for $300

Motors shot and bodys got mad cancer but running gear is in order

Troy,

Bad communication between myself and the co-worker. He is not sure what year it is, but stopped last night to check it out again for me. It is driver side drop and what he thinks to be an 80's model. I have no interest in it unless it was going to be pass drop because I only wanted the axles. He said the body has very little rust and a faded paint job. Supposedly the engine ran when it was parked, but was having some cold weather problems, whatever that means. Price is $300. It is in Northern Davidson county. PM me if you are interested. I have the guys information.
