I have always wanted a Solid axle toyota, and since I think my 05 tacoma is too nice to wheel, i decided to pull the trigger on this truck. hopefully everything works out....

I have been doing some research on half doors, and i ended up getting a 2nd set of doors so i figured i would give it a shot. Me and a buddy started cutting last night, turned out decent for first attempt. My buddy builds race cars so he had similar experience with doors.

I didnt cut the doors too low, i wanted too but I also wanted them to have some strength and also wanted to keep my factory handle and mirror. Measured it so that It would be perfect height for an arm wrist.

Spartan locker (front)
4.70 Transfer case gears

I would recommend against both of these. A front locker is going to make it much harder to turn offroad, and will make you have to upgrade your front shafts sooner. Put it in the back. Also not having the option of stock low sucks. Run 2 stock cases instead. Also you may want to consider 5.29's instead of 4.88's. Your probably gonna go bigger than 33's at some point and the 5.29's will be nice then. And there not bad at all with 33's. I ran that setup for a while and loved it on the road.

coolest thing in your shop is that narrow full skull mount above the fire axe. thats cool.

I would go 5.29s also, its always better to be geared a little lower. Nice build keep it up

By themselves yes 4.7's are too low. Two stock cases is almost the same, but your not tied down to it.

A buddy of our's has 4.7's with 5.29's and 36's. His setup seems great. I like the options you have with duals, but most of the time when you are in low it's to go steadily slow. Worst case keep going through the gears or go duals later on down the road.

Jerret I really like how this things coming along. You haven't cut any corners, which you never do. I can't wait to see this lil beast done!

dual cases are great, I recommend it, stock case is 2.28 so 4lowlow is 4.56. I have dual cases in 2 trucks. a daily driven stock IFS truck and my trail truck. having 15 forward and 3 reverse gear ratio selections is pretty wild.

I agree that dual cases are great and it is the best set up. However, the reason i am planning to do 4.7s in a single case is because of the cost aspect. I am on a budget were money is an option. I am considering 4.7's is a great gear, and you can retain factory front/rear drive shafts, and the t-case mounts in the factory location. I would love to eventually upgrade to dual cases but right now it isnt cost worthy

Getting around from obstacle to obstacle I run stock low all the time and 4.7's would suck. When you get in a rock garden or something that's when you need that real low gear.

I also meant to add that the half doors are almost finished, just need to do a little more bondo and sanding and they will be complete

installed the SS brake lines, but I need to get a new master cylinder. also ordered new front fenders, should be here in the next few days, and also my girlfriend ordered me steelies for my birthday!!!! finally, I am getting my tires next saturday from my friend alove0750, the truck is coming together smoothly, all that is left is to fab up the bed, order shackles, and paint it!
