Just an FYI, dont not drive around App. State.

Ashe Lake?
All I know of is Hamptons (they tow on campus) and Bills (Or Bobs, cant remember, I think its Bills) who tow basically everything off campus in Boone.
I did extensive research on this before I got my State Farm Parking. I was trying to see if I could find a place to keep my car that the towing people didnt know about. And suprisingly I actually DID find one
Wachovia doesnt have a towing company patrolling like the others do. They are on a call in basis, and never really call in. So I parked there for about a week till state farm opened up. I went back Sunday to pick my car up and they had left me a nice handwritten note telling me nicely to have my car moved out by Monday or they had no choice to tow it. Pretty classy actually.

You should match their class by walking itno the bank and apologising profusely, saying that you didn't realize it was a problem and will not do so again.
That will keep them being classy and polite to other folks.

Maybe thing have changed in the 7 years since I've been a student... but Ashe Lake had their garage beside campus on King street, a few blocks from where 321 intersects it (I think 321 is now 4 lanes there?). Is "Legends" still there? It wask inda behind that. They did most of the patrolling around teh skirts of campus (King st etc).
My roomate had a deal w/ the guys at Rock n Roll Sports, paid like $100 for the semester to park there.

Once you've been there awhile, you can make buddies w/ somebody that rents a house or apt w/ big lot that is a bit away form campus... and offer them $$$ to leave yer car there.

Ashe Lake is now Bill's towing..and yes...you can't go 10 minutes without seeing one of their tow trucks go by.

I alway's thought the boone police were the nicest cops around. They never bothered any of the rigs up there even though most are not street legal. Boone is also probably the only place that you can drive around with no inspection sticker and not get pulled. When I first got my jeep done My tire came off and hit a concerete truck on the other side of the road and knocked a hole in the fuel tank. When the police showed up I had no liceanse plate on the back and no working lights. Yet they didn't give me a ticket and just asked if I could get the wheel back on and get home ok.

Also there has been mulitpule times when they could have given me a ticket for underage drinking but they always just warned us and told us to go home or shut the party down.

Bills

So Ashe lake is no longer?! What about the other big abomination in town-PSI apartments? That Petersilli was/is the town apartment pimp. You couldnt go 4 years of school without eventually sending him a check.

The cops in town can be either really cool, or a pain. Depends on the situation, just dont dick around with the Sheriff dept on election years!!! Dont ask me how I know:rolleyes:

BTW- if you want the SA-WEEEET parking, get a faculty permit from your girlfriends mom.:huggy:

My troubles were over when I got a stadium parking pass for my senior year. I felt like a Rockefeller pulling onto campus and parking without worrying. :driver: If they still do the lottery for passes make sure you get your name in early when you're eligible.

yup, Ashe Lake is Bills now

Boone police are really good guys. Every party thats been busted that Ive been to, they just wanted us to get the cars off the road really (421) They didnt care that there where 4 kegs sitting there, nor that most of the people where way underage. Just wanted cars off 421 haha

Man ASU PD hassels bring back memories, bunch of glorified rent-a-cops.

Just make sure you pay your parking tickets before its time to graduate or they won't let you walk. Well you could probably walk, but they won't release your transcript or diploma which you might need. Ask me how I know.

Woo hoo Mountaineer Village. The only parking enforcement we have is a sign that says you need a tag to park there or you'll get towed. Only thing is they don't issue tags. And has anyone noticed that they have gone away from towing and are now favoring booting?

Those boots take up less room than a lot full of cars.

VT had a deal where you got a bunch of day passes at a discounted rate if you were going to ride the bus most of the time. The best part was these passes weren't restricted to the student lots like the semester passes... but that didn't stop VT PD from giving us a ticket anyway. They threatened no graduation or something, but I remember some kind of slick conversation and... I don't think we ever paid it.

My brother left the broken down '84 Olds we shared on the street in Blacksburg after he graduated. It sat there for over a month and had graffiti before it was towed... then he went up there (another 3 months later?) and gave them $150 to take it to the 'yard so he didn't have to touch it again.

I had a friend last year who somehow ended up parking in front of the Ambulance garage, and none of the ambulances could get out....

yea he got in a BUNCH of trouble for that one...

oops.

A few years ago, a guy burned one of Bill's tow trucks to the ground. He had been towed, and decided to get a little payback, so he strolled on over to Bill's Garage. When he got there - drunk, of course - he decided his payback would be to kick the front bumper of the Dodge. What he didn't realize that what he was also kicking was the front quick disconnect for the jumper cables. It proceeded to short out, setting the truck ablaze.

He would probably have gotten away with it if he had left, but being the drunk idiot he was, he stayed until the police and FD arrived.

Ashe Lake....that name brings back some memories. I had a friend get towed by them. He broke into the "holding pen" stole his car back and promptly changed the tags. Nothing else was ever said.

I also saw them try to tow a blazer from the spaces on the road between Cone and Whitener dorms...you know, that steep a$$ hill. Well, they didn't get the blazer hooked up good, it broke free and rolled down the hill crashing into East dorm.

Seems like I remember the traffic office at ASU banking around 3 million dollars one year. There was an article in the paper, but I heard they don't exist anymore, that the dept has be restructured. Everyone that worked for that office was an a$$. I came back to my car one day after going up to my dorm room to get my crap (was heading home and the car had only been parked there for about 10 minutes max) to find one of the traffic geezers standing behind my car writing a ticket. OK, ticket is not a problem, I take the ticket and say thanks (translated .... kiss my a$$ to old SOB) and proceed to get in the car. He says, "You'll have to wait on a tow truck." WTF.....he already had a truck in route. I politely told him he was full of it and that he should remove himself from the rear of my vehicle as I was about to leave. I passed the tow truck as I headed down the hill from Cone.

HAHAHA dude! Where did it crash into over there at East?

Thats where I got my only ticket so far, Behind White. Parked in a supposed No Parking Zone, with no warning that it was no parking :shaking:

I'm glad I went to a small private school. We got away with just about anything. The only thing you could really get arrested for was possession of drugs - lots of drugs. Unless you were rollin' like Scarface, you were fine. Even then, it wasn't the campus cops that got ya, it was the sherriff.

I went to Cowbell -- er, Campbell U -- and on days that I drove one of the heeps without a parking sticker, all I had to do was back into a space, the rent-a-cops were to lazy to get out of their golf carts and walk back to check the rear window.

Even worked in the faculty parking, unless they saw you getting out of the car and knew you weren't staff.

still can you beat 2 boots and 1 towing in 2 weeks totaling about $275 in BS for parking. I fucking hate highlands, but i guess the security guard learned his lesson about coming up to me and asking me how i was doing after i found out there was a boot on my jeep...

well, got one ticket for taking up 2 spaces at state farm...my bumper was a little over the back line (rear tires were NOT over the line). I dont know how the heck the expect you to park my 4 door long bed F350 in a spot when all the back ones against the fence are taken.

I live in App Heights now...

Good LUCK finding parking here. If your not back before 9 PM on any night of the week, your screwed.

i'll offer up a couple of my parking schemes to any of you current ncsu students now that i'm not there.:flipoff2:

1. for any parking in the central part of campus, go to the main gate that is always staffed with a person. tell them you need a loading pass. you'll get a temporary pass that's good for 20 minutes. i was only ticketed twice in three years for it being over the time limit, and typically parked for 1-3 hours.

2. there also used to be several gates that you could easily drive around by putting two wheels up on the curb/sidewalk. most of them were short gates that didn't cover the whole road to give motorcycles room to pass through. with some of the construction/renovating/changing of streets and lots they've done in the past couple of years, i'm not sure if that will still work.

3. the pay lot behind the student health center. get the receptionist at either the health center or upstairs at the counseling center to validate the ticket you get at the gate. they usually aren't paying attention to who is coming in/out and will just stamp it.

disclaimer: i have no idea if any of this will still work. it's been nearly three years since i graduated. things may have changed from construction/renovations, or they may have caught on to such schemes. i doubt i was the only person doing it.

also, once you get three tickets with a vehicle you can't use it anymore because the next one will get you a boot. they tracked by the license plate. this wasn't ever a problem for me, because i always had different vehicles every few months. i only got maybe 5 or 6 tickets total the whole time i was there anyway.

Ive been pulled driving my rig for no reason...back when all lights and signals worked too. "Because he could" What a waste, because when I went to court for it, the cop said I cooperated and evertything and suggested the charge be dropped. I guess they just wanted the 100 dollar court cost.

On my first day staying in the dorms, before classes even started, I got $450 in parking tickets. I didn't realize it but about three spots to the right and three spots to the left there were handicap signs with arrows indicating all the spots in between were handicap spots too. I didn't notice them and thought it was just a normal spot. The campus police came around every few hours all night and gave me more tickets.

Fortunately, I just talked to them and they dismissed everything.
